i had a weekend. lessee. friday i just stayed home and watched some buffy. we've finished disc 3 of season six now. smashed = lurvely. yum.
saturday. got up fairly early to make it over to the Otis House by 10:30. it was members day, so everything was pretty much free, with lots of special tours and activities, and we had no idea how many people were going to show up. i was one of three tour guides on the schedule (usually there'll just be two of us), plus carolyn our site manager, cathy (another guide who was there strictly to do walking tours), susan the research manager giving special tours, three of the education people doing hands-on special fun stuff in the kitchen, and sarah and susanna running interference with the boxed lunches (not at the Y) and the members sign-in table. we had a lot of people show up, but the real winners were the people who just happened to be on vacation this week and stopped by. not only did they get free tours of the house, they also got to make plaster ornaments or herb sachets if they wanted. i gave one particularly good tour to a family of four from san antonio who had the nicest daughters any tour guide could possibly want on a tour. they were attentive, seemed interested, and were polite and sweet. i loved this family. the girls then got to make herb sachets, and the younger one filled out a comment sheet about our new kids booklet that we were beta-testing. i think they had a really good time. i also got to shadow susan's tour focusing on the boarding house years, how the house was all divided up and what they used the rooms for and such. very cool.
after Otis, i got off work around 4:30. i walked with laura up to gov't center, and then walked up to park street to meet jorn. (see, walking to park street instead of T'ing it, aren't i great?) we decided to head to quincy market for dinner, and out in front of faneuil hall we ran into the Jim Show! i remembered Jim from when he had done the Jim Show one time at SU. Jim is very cool. so we watched him juggling while balancing on one foot on a board on a rolling cylinder on a stool. then we gave him money. i got a hot dog for dinner and jorno got chicken quesadillas from baja fresh (which i then wished i had gotten instead, since my hot dog wasn't spectacular). we stopped to see the living gargoyle (great costume) and then walked up to the theater (pausing only briefly to see what H&M's got for summer). we met up with farbs and miles at the theater for Harry Potter goodness. a very good movie. we were totally psyched.
arrived home from the movie and planned to basically sit around playing nintendo for the rest of the night. but then dann and dylan got home from party A and convinced me to go out with them to party B. i got changed into an appropriate costume (dyl was little bo peep again, and dann was the thnikkaman, so i needed to wear something odd); i settled on sarah b's pleather pants (which looked damn fine on me if i do say so myself) and my dark purple velvet tank with my devil horns and silver lipstick and glitter. dylan was sure that there would be plenty of liquor at the party, but i figured since i'm picky i ought to bring some of my own, and i was glad i did--my admiral nelson coconut rum was sprang upon by thirsty party-goers as soon as i plunked it on the table. after finding a mug to drink out of (they'd run out of plastic cups too) i mixed myself a drink (i'd also brought two cans of coke with me) and got my drink's worth out of the admiral nelson, which was fine. later on, dyl and i did shots of bacardi from the mug, and that was... well, let this be a lesson to y'all never to do shots of bacardi. ugh. but it did its jorb, and soon we were dancing frenetically. didn't make it home until 4am.
sunday. slept in til almost noon, then had some breakfast (two pop tarts and a slice of cold leftover pizza) before curling up with dyl on the couch for a four-hour nap. i would've curled up with jorn but he's sick (i did find him some tylenol cold before i passed out). had low-maintenance mac & cheese for dinner, did some computer shopping online, and then had a nice long chat with dyl. sunday was pretty much a completely wasted day, but what else was i going to do, really? watch buffy, play nintendo?
this morning i arrived at work only to find my office full of very large flies. ugh. i must've sounded terrified on the phone, because facilities sent over the pest control guys in under ten minutes. now my floor is littered with dead fly bodies. thank goodness. the pest control guys think there might be a second dead squirrel in the walls of the office above me and that that might be where the flies are coming from. i just want this dead squirrel bullshit to be over with.
