books 2005: Tamsin, by Peter S. Beagle

What a good book. Sometimes when I finish a good book I get really sad that it's over, but not with this one. I just feel all satisfied. Really excellent. I finished it in under 24 hours. (335 pages--take that, Taras Grescoe!) Good, good, good. I want to read it again right now to catch all the little things I know I missed the first time through. Peter Beagle's most well-known book is The Last Unicorn, which I read last year and liked a lot, but this was really kind of different from that. A ghost story, and a fantasy, and a love story, and just an all-around good book. I am very, very pleased.

Chocolate Madness invite

I’m writing to invite you to join me at a fun event this Spring! Chocolate Madness, NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts' largest annual fundraiser, will be held on Tuesday, May 3, 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the Cyclorama, 539 Tremont Street in Boston's South End. It'll be a chocolate lover’s feast featuring all-you-can-eat chocolate donated by some of Boston’s best restaurants. This year, I’m helping out as a volunteer. It would be great to have you join us, so I’m writing to urge you to purchase a ticket today!

A bunch of great Boston-area restaurants have signed on to participate, including l’Espalier, Clio, Bomboa, Grill 23, Temple Bar, Hamersley’s Bistro, Pho Republique, Rosie’s Bakery and many more. Join us to savor all the chocolate you can eat while generously supporting NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts’ work to expand and protect access to reproductive health care.
