My weekend was busy and good, for the most part. Friday night you heard about. Let's not have any more talk about that horrible movie. Saturday I slept in! It was wonderful. Eventually I rolled over and smiled at Jorn, and he said, Hey it's almost noon maybe we should get up? And I had no idea that it was that late. Oh well. I had breakfast and watched some of the NHL draft with Dann, who is doomed to be eternally frustrated by his favorite team. Then I worked on my proof for three hours and got it all done. Woot. Met up with Sarahs EE and Farbs for some Old Navy shopping and then dinner and ice cream at Friendly's for my birthday. Fun! Then we all stood around in the parking lot on our various cell phones coordinating movie plans. We (Jorn and Sarah2 and I) saw Howl's Moving Castle (subtitled). It was so excellent. I think it's my favorite Miyazaki yet. I loved it so much. Afterwards I checked my voicemail and called back Mrs. Chancellor (my mother's best friend and my mom #2) who had big news: her son is getting married. I've known Dan since he was three years old wearing cowboy boots and his sister's skirt, so that was crazy to hear. Sounds like he's really happy, though, and Mrs. C likes the girl. So next summer I'll apparently be in the Orlando-ish area for their wedding. The news really kind of threw me for a loop and Jorn and I had a Discussion when we got home, but all is okay now.
Sunday I got up early and made it to Amy's by 10:15 to start the party prep. We went to the grocery store for supplies, and then rearranged all her furniture to make room for the 20+ people we needed to cram in her living room ("Because nothing says sex toys like blue plaid"). Then, food making. We made brownies and key lime tarts and crabbies and honey mustard BBQmaple honey peno peppermint pineapple cracklin' oat bran meatballs, and a fruit tray with Amy's honey yogurt dip and a cheese tray and a veggie tray. Ms Birdmadd brought a blueberry sour cream pie that I didn't get to try, and Sarah Batt brought her yummy guacamole and a plant for me for my birthday ("When it dies, you can just throw it out!"). We had a really good turnout for the party, too--a few people who said they were coming didn't make it (some of whom called or sent word--thank you--and some of whom didn't), but we had a really good crowd. I was pleased to see
greylady, whom we hadn't actually met in person before but who was a lovely addition to the party, and Cathy, whom I knew when we were undergrads but whom I rarely get to see up here. And of course Sarah Batt, who makes any party that much better just by being in the room. I think everyone had a really good time. I know I personally can't wait to receive my shipment of Fun and Excitement.
Yesterday after work Amy went with me to pick up the keys to my new apartment, and we walked around and made some moving-things plans. I'm hoping to paint the bedroom, I need to ask George the Landlord about that. I think he'll be cool with it. We definitely need to pick up some cabinet things for the kitchen, since there really aren't any, and we'lll need an entertainment center thing big enough to hold the TV and all the game systems and etc, along with stuff like a shower curtain, but overall I think we're in relatively good shape. (And Amy told me that the B&B where her dad stays when he's in the area is just blocks from my new place, which I filed away for future parental-visit reference.) The apartment is not as small as I had remembered, and I think we'll have room enough for all of our crap if we get rid of some of said crap now. Which we're working on. I had a small breakdown when I got home related to packing--the moving thing is just so stressful to me, and I can't just drop everything and get it done as much as I would like to do that, because I have to do things like work and fly to PA this weekend. I really, really don't want to be traveling this weekend, but I promised and I booked a flight so I'm freakin' going. Jorn is living up to his Best Boyfriend Evar title and has promised to move a lot of stuff this weekend while he has the car. He took good care of me while I freaked out last night but hopefully after this I'll be able to keep it together and not freak out anymore.
And he took me out to the movies, to see The Dark Crystal at the Brattle. I love that movie so much, and he hadn't seen it in years and I hadn't seen it on a big screen. It was so awesome and worth the late showing. *love*
Last night I clipped my nails short and this morning I remembered to take off the nail polish scraps that were still on there from my manicure three and a half weeks ago. With the nails short I'll actually be able to pack boxes and move them. Small steps, small steps.
