books 2006: Blackbeard and Other Pirates of the Atlantic Coast, by Nancy Roberts

A well-researched and also very fictionalized account of pirates's lives, including Blackbeard, Captain Kidd, Jack Rackham, and Anne Bonny. It made for a good read.

Lost again

I just wanted to say--I remembered a comment thread over at sarahpender's journal about shirtlessness on Lost, and I was struck by how I totally called it--I predicted that the season would start with a shirtless Desmond emerging from the wreckage of the hatch, and yeah, next week'll be the third episode of the season, but still, apparently I was right on. Shirtless Desmond will emerge next week, and we shall add that moment to our mental tally of shirtless Lost men emerging from things. Hooray!
