This was the saddest book I have read in a long time. It was also an incredibly good book, sucking me in right from the very first page. Ishiguro does here something that Ursula K. Le Guin is also very good at: taking a concept from science fiction and pushing it further to look deeply into how people behave and how we treat others. I found this book to be very moving and haunting.

Second or third reread. Always a good book. The ending this time left me pondering more than it has in the past. Also, upon the second or third read, McKinley's plot starts to show a little more: it starts out as a book about Robin Hood, but eventually becomes a book about Little John and another character. For that reason, I feel like the book is a little uneven, but I still really love it.
