Reread in November 2012. One of my favorite things about this collection is the brief intro that Le Guin includes for each story. "Semley's Necklace" is a great story, and "Winter's King" made me cry. Just a really solid selection.

This movie was delightful. I loved the way it clung pretty closely to the original book, and I loved the places where it deviated. I loved the look of the film, the old movie clips (which Selznick could never truly capture in a book, no matter how well written). I love Ben Kingsley, and I didn't even hate Sacha Baron Cohen. Really well done and highly recommended.

We finished the second season of Friday Night Lights. I continue to love Tim Riggins. Smash got me all teary a few times this season. Really enjoyed Landry's character development, too, and loved Tyra on the volleyball team. Haven't started season 3 yet.

I'm in the third season of Weeds. It's simultaneously painful (because these characters make the WORST DECISIONS) and hilarious. Nancy's brick dance FTW.

We're caught up on Doctor Who. Disappointed in the end of the Pond/Rory era. Read more... )

I'm around six episodes into the third season of Vampire Diaries. I watch it in 10-20 minute increments while I'm breastfeeding. I'm going so slowly that I'll probably finish season 3 around when season 4 ends in real time. This show is my guilty pleasure; F teases me, but I love my trampires. However, BabyGirl is getting way more interactive and easily distracted these days, so I don't think I can get away with watching it while I feed her anymore. Hopefully I'll still get to watch it occasionally.

We finished My So-Called Life. Heartbreaking how good that show was getting when it got canned. They had set up so many really compelling long-term plotlines! We've now added Freaks & Geeks to the queue because I've never seen that either.

Halfway through the fifth season of Star Trek TNG. This season is fairly awesome: we started out with Gauron rocking the Klingon empire and Worf reclaiming his honor, and moved directly into Darmok and Gilad at Tanagra! I'm also kind of amazed at how quickly Alexander has grown. If we're only in the fifth season, he should be like three years old. Ah, well.

In searching for another half-hour comedy, we started on Raising Hope. Haven't gone back to it yet. Love Martha Plimpton, though.
