You know, somehow I'm not surprised that I could get together with friends to watch a nice innocent movie like Flight of the Navigator and still end the evening shouting about man-muscle.

So has anyone ever heard of a movie called The Singing Detective? It stars Robert Downey Jr, Robin Wright-Penn, and the chick who played Joey on Dawson's Creek as the hot nurse with the jar of thick white salve. We caught about ten minutes of this movie and either we were lucky enough to catch the surreal bit, or else it's pretty fucked up all the way through. I'm betting it's the latter.

Anyway, I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. Like, hyperventilating laughing. Like whoa. What a fun night.

Actually, based on that quote, I think I have seen it, but from the actors listed it might be a different version, since I saw one in the early 90's. It was definitely an odd movie, and snippets get stuck in my head occasionally. She was greasing him because he was badly burned, right?

The original version of THE SINGING DETECTIVE was a six or seven hour British miniseries put out in the mid-80s based on a novel by Dennis Potter. I've got it on VHS if you ever want to borrow it. Surreal is... something of an understatement.

I got nostalgic a couple weeks ago and had to go rent flight of the navigator. .. it's one of those movies that "raised" me. . .
