Don't be fooled by this entry's subject: last night I went to the Princess Superstar show at the Middle East downstairs. There were two opening bands, neither of which I saw because Jorn thought they would suck and so we hung out at Dann's until 10:45pm. Well, Jorn hung out, and I took a nap on Dann's bed. Anyway, Princess S went on pretty much on time, which was awesome (I'm not used to going to a show with Jorn and not having to stand around for three hours to see the band). I wasn't sure what I would think of her, but I thought she was great. She's way hottt, and put on a great show with costume changes and everything. She's promoting her new album, which is an insane concept album based on the idea that her dopplegangers from the future had come back in time to trash talk her. Or something. Anyway, that's why she's performing in front of a huge screen, which you'll see in the pictures below.

The only problem with this show was the crowd, which was really weird. There was the "crazy dancing fangirl" side of the room, and the "crazy drunk asshole" side of the room. Guess where we ended up standing? Really tall drunk guys kept elbowing their way to the front of the crowd, leaving to go get a beer and then elbowing their way back to the front of the crowd again. And I'm sorry, but it's bad enough to be tall and stand right in the front, but when you're also drunk, pushy, going back and forth, and dancing by waving your arms all over the place, it just makes me want to KEEL YOU.

The aforementioned annoyingly tall pushy drunk guy, known henceforth as "Telly Savalas." You can see a tiny bit of Princess S in the top corner of the picture by his head. This was my view of the stage the entire time he was in front of me. Also, note the guy in the yellow t-shirt. That dude was a Princess Boozy Disaster if ever I've seen one (the term "Princess Boozy Disaster," coined by Jorn's buddy Jantine to describe her insane drunk roommate, is totally applicable here because the more this guy drank, the more... princessy... he became, you know?).

This was my view of the stage when Princess S first came out. The dude directly in front of me started some shit with Telly Savalas, and they ended up yelling at each other, and then hat guy's buddy leaped at Telly aggressively. Luckily the bouncers got wind of this and caught the guy before an all-out brawl could erupt right in front of us. Hat guy and his friends were kicked out, while Telly laughed drunkenly at them, making me want to punch him too. Through all of this, Princess S just kept singing. I was very impressed by her, because this incident was the biggest thing I've ever seen happen in a crowd at the ME, and it must have been visible and possibly scary from the stage. It seemed like she stayed mostly to the "crazy fangirl" side of the stage after this happened, but I don't blame her for that.

Anyway, once the assholes were gone and we just had Meandering Telly to deal with, Jorn and I were able to move forward a bit and get a better view of the stage:

I was fiddling with the flash to see what would get the best pictures, so that's where this bunch came from. I was surprised to find it worked better to take pictures without the flash (the above pics of Telly and hat guy were taken with the flash on). But it takes longer to take a picture without the flash, and Princess S moves around a lot, so the pictures ended up looking pretty trippy:

I think this might very well be my favorite picture that I've ever taken. I don't know why but I really love it.

Anyway, besides the craziness, I really enjoyed this show. She played "Bad Babysitter" and a few other songs I was familiar with, and she totally rocked. I'm also really glad I brought my camera--in addition to getting good pictures, it gave me something to think about besides how long I'd been standing there and how tired I was, which is what usually happens when I go to a show. I want to try to remember to bring it to any future shows I go to.

PS. The crazy dancing fangirls climbed up on stage as soon as Princess S left so they could steal her pompoms. OMG!
