so yeah. i get up (at jorn's house) at 7:35, rush out the door, clear snow off my car and drive carefully home. there's like two-three inches of snow on the ground. not a big deal, except that greensboro has like one snow plow and they share it with raleigh and durham or something. but i'm a northerner; driving home in snow was not exactly tough. i get home, change, eat breakfast, get on my fleecy pants and boots and coat and hat and gloves and scarf, and elan and i go walking down to campus. she's going to her office to plan for her classes (she doesn't teach TTH), and i'm going to CASA because i work at 9am. on the way, we see NO ONE. like, at all. CASA is closed and dark when i arrive. i start thinking, wait a sec, did they close the university or something? and wander over to the mciver building, where elan's office is. there's no one there but a few groundskeepers and elan (and jim clark in the MFA office, making phone calls). yeah, school's closed. so i trudged home. it just never even occurred to me that school would close today.
and yeah, it's kind of nice to not be at work right now, and instead to be at home in my slippers and listening to dar williams, but it's not like i have a stressful job or anything. and i'm guessing that my yoga class is going to have be rescheduled or something, which will be annoying. and i couldn't drop off my poems for fred for tuesday's conference, because the english office was closed. so now i guess i'll have to bother him at the bar tonight, or maybe call somebody to see if they're still having workshop and go by there to drop them off. and i'm supposed to have a conference with stuart at 4pm, which i'm hoping is still going to happen; stuart lived for years in boston, so i'm doubting he'll be daunted by the weather, but i wouldn't be surprised if he stayed home just because he's stuart and he's like that. sigh. so really, the snow is pissing me off more than it's being nice and snowdayey. damned southerners, can't handle two damn inches.
