i am so lame. i am a giant lamezor. this is because i figured i would get all this work done this weekend while jorn was away, but i didn't. i just socialized like mad and otherwise wasted time. sigh. so yesterday, i got up around 10, did some laundry, read the paper, and got a phone call from kari! we talked for like an hour and a half i think. she's coming to my reading in february, and she's going to bring her new superhero boyfriend. she's all happy. the previous boyfriend is sort of stalking now, which he's done before, so hopefully he'll stop soon. anyway, i told her about the sleeping arrangements (all these people are coming for my reading: my parents, my three or four best girl friends from high school, and kari + boy), and she said they'll be happy to bring sleeping bags and pillows and crash on jorn's floor. so jorn, sorry, but it's looking like kari won't be the fourth woman in your bed in 2003, unless you want to cuddle up with josh too. :)
after finally getting off the phone, i finished reading the paper/clipping my coupons, took a shower, did some revising of the saint augustine stuff. i'm getting too into it now, i think, because i'm not really working on anything else and that's not good because i don't know if i'll be reading these at the reading. i should back away from 4th century carthage for a while (but i just checked a bunch of books out of the library!). anyway, then i went to the SUPABOWL party at jeremy's house, and it was way fun. here's all the people that were there: me, elan, jeremy, brian, hardy, jerry, tom, ezra, virgil & caroline, will, angie & jake, fay for a while, and ruth and tracy for a while. jeremy has a little teeny living room, but that's okay. it was a good game, although one of the most interesting parts of it was theorizing about how that yellow line appears down the field, and why it doesn't cover up white marks or the superbowl logo and how people can go over it since obviously it's not like some dood runs out and paints it on for every play. another fun thing was making fun of it all, like when john madden or whoever said "that's the man with the sack" and we were all like, hehe. also, making fun of the commercials, like the one about the girl who got pregnant because marijuana impeded her judgment. so hardy's all like, hey who's got some weed? it was a very dumb ad. probably the best part of the superbowl though was the SNL halftime show. jimmy fallon is just so cute, particularly when he's soulfully performing the scorpions' whistle solo. a good time was had by all.
this morning in self defense class, we learned how to take a dood down if he's standing there kicking you while you're lying on the ground. now i can break his ankle, marthafocker. self defense class is fun. it's difficult to really learn the stuff, though, because you can't *really* practice it unless you're all about injuring your opponent, and you can't exactly do that in a class. plus, me and my partner margaret throwing each other around isn't quite the same as if some big dood jumped me on the street. i'm pretty clear on *what* to do (or i will be by the end of the semester), it's just hard to imagine actually *doing* it. i think at some point i'll get to try to fend off my instructor, who's like 6'1" and 220 lbs, so that'll be good. it's not like he's a wrestler or a marine or an ex-con or something, though. hopefully i won't ever have to worry about it.
