This week: myself, Jean, Kristina, Christine (back from a long absence), and Karen (back from vacation in Italy). Tariq was busy with other work and so didn't join us. Karen brought over pictures of Kari's newborn, who was 9 or 10 pounds and looked like two months old even with the birth gunk still on him. (Kari usually plays Scrabble with us, but obviously, she's a little busy right now.)
So, I said last week that Jean's been improving her Scrabble game by leaps and bounds. Well, today she totally rocked us all, even though she had to pass on her first turn because she didn't have anything to put down. Towards the end of the game, she came out with the spectacular SQUARELY, using all her letters and scoring 94 points. It was awesome.
My words this game:
ZONED / SIEVED (26 points) (I wish I could have had a better spot to put the Z in, but it was too early in the game for much to be open yet)
FLAME (20 points)
ANGER (12 points)
FORTY (19 points)
RE / EW (11 points)
IT / TOY (8 points)
I used up my last letter (the T) on IT / TOY, so that was a pretty rockin' move for one letter. After collecting everybody's leftover points, I ended the game with 111. Jean had some exorbitantly high score. Christine had been concerned that she was out of practice, but she still beat me with a 118. She also had a super-excellent move herself, where she attached something like MART to the pre-existing JOIN to get JOINT, and a lot of points. I was really proud of her, because she has trouble sometimes thinking in both directions. Overall it was a really good game.
