recent events:

thursday march 6: went to a workshop with natasha trethewey. it was about 800 times better than the workshop we had with garrett hongo last semester. went to the bar after workshop; came home with rhett and played a quick game of yahtzee with her, elan, and matt. then went to natasha's reading, which was also awesome. had her sign my books and also sign one for a gift for my mom (shh--i think i'm going to save it for her birthday in july, because she got a signed book for mother's day last year, so she might be expecting one this year too). after the reading, i put in an appearance at the post-reading party at melissa's, which i wasn't really expecting to enjoy but which was pretty fun anyway. melissa sure can cook. also, we had an arm wrestling tournament. elan kicked my ass, then jenny kicked hers. (jorn was at the godspeed concert while all this was going on--ordinarily he'd be there with me for all the fun writer action).

friday march 7: had a really good conference with natasha trethewey (she liked my st. augustine poems a LOT, which made me feel good, and she gave me some really good suggestions for expansion). skipped the potluck dinner with natasha (sad face) to catch the mc paul barman / gogol bordello concert (happy face). it was freakin' awesome (just like autumn)! i forget who was the opening band, but i remember them being punky cute girls and i liked them. then mc paul was really, really good. i wanted to buy a cute girly t-shirt so i could display his name tightly across my breasts, but he was only selling normal t-shirts. oh well, i can always try the website. gogol bordello was also really good--i was so surprised and pleased and freaked out by them. they were all eastern european and gypsy and stuff. and they rocked. their singer was totally insane, all jumping around and screaming, and they were all theatrical--two chicks came out during the first song dressed in matching outfits carrying newspapers and with feathers coming out of their butts like tails. first they were just running around, but then they would scream (AAAHHHHHHHHHhhhhhh) and fall over and the singer would hold the mike up so the screaming would be all loud. i would be really interested in getting a cd by this band, but i would want to hear it first to see how comparable the recording is to the live experience.

saturday march 8: drove to myrtle beach (only got a bit lost, and were easily able to find our way). sat on the beach, went to a cool mexican place for dinner. got a headache and fell asleep on the couch while everyone else (jorn, rhett, angie, tom) played outburst.

sunday march 9: played some zelda. sat on the beach, walked for a long time on the beach. found lots of really beautiful shells, including sixteen pairs of butterfly shells (tiny clamshells still attached to each other at the edge) and some really nice twisty ones. they don't make 'em like that in new jersey, folks. sunday night we rented bottle rocket (the first wilson bros movie) and got pizza and drank jorn's frosty orange stuff.

monday march 10: slept in, sat/walked on beach some more. came inside because it was too cold. helped clean house, remake beds, etc. left with rhett and jorn--got ice cream from kirk's ice cream place. i got a dish with a scoop each of new orleans praline pecan, heath bar crunch, and chocolate chip cookie dough. a scoop to kirk is not the same unit of measurement as the scoop i was thinking of, however, and i couldn't finish my ice cream, though i valiantly tried. then we went mini golfing at hawaiian caverns golf, which was a really good mini golf place. jorn was so, so excited! got dinner at Ella's seafood restaurant in Calabash, NC, then drove back to greensboro.

tuesday march 11: slept in at jorn's, then spent the day watching voyager episodes we'd taped as well as a few episodes of pokemon. we ordered papa john's for lunch and it came with free cheesesticks. it was a great day. tuesday night, went to the rainer maria concert. a total of four bands played: Saturday Looks Good to Me (who were really cute, but not as cute in my opinion as the cute opening band at the mc paul barman show on friday), Sorry About Dresden (who sucked my big toe), Mates of State (also super cute and really amazing), and Rainer Maria (pronounced RHINE-er, like the creature at the zoo, NOT RAIN-er, like the weather). it was a really good show. i continue to love Rainer Maria. i wanted to get a shirt, but i didn't want another regular t-shirt and their cute girly shirts were only available in a medium, which would never fit over my head. so again, i guess i'll try the website.

my plans for the rest of the week: eat and sleep. write a whole lot. revise a whole lot. get some poems sent out to magazines and contests--particularly the nimrod awards (it's an actual reputable magazine, thank you) and the indiana review contest (judged by denise duhamel this year). contests cost money, though, so i'm thinking i'll try to just submit things to regular magazines too. also planning to drop off my sexy dress at the dry cleaners (finally), to work out again on friday (i did today and i am pumped), to sweep my apartment, and maybe to borrow (at least listen to) jorn's new rainer maria cds. also, to watch some star trek and hopefully some csi, pokemon, buffy, and some movies. i added a whole bunch to the official list. i need to go shower now. and get the laundry out of the washer. i've got like two more loads to do after this one, too. busy spring break.
