Today's Scrabble game was full of much hilarity. Eight of us today--I think that's a new high point. Tariq, Kari, Lou, and I played on one board; Jean, Kristina, Karen, and Liam played the other board.
My words:
14 points - FIRE
22 points - GATES/FLIPS
11 points - LIED/MID
36 points - QUOTE
12 points - OGLE
12 points - EKE
11 points - YEN
14 points - AIR/QI
05 points - BO
minus 2 to Lou, who went out first, and I ended with a 135.
Final scores: Tariq, 123; Kari, 133; Lou, 156. He was very proud.
During the other game, Jean kept setting people up for really good moves on the triple-word blocks but could never manage to get one herself. I told her she's a benevolent Scrabbler. Liam won that game, and with a score of 166--higher than Lou's score--so he took the crown. Actually, they kind of surreptitiously raced over to my desk to get the crown, and Liam got here first. Lou is very unhappy about his crown deprivation. Note to self: stop at a costume shop and get another freakin' crown.
Random craziness:
- I very nicely asked if anyone wanted a cookie. They were just Keebler or whatever, but still. Lou had one and could not shut up about how bad it was, how cold it was (it had been in the fridge in my lunch), etc. Kari said she quite liked her cookie, though.
- Around when I played YEN or AIR, Lou had just picked new letters, and mumbles under his breath something like, "Oh yeah, come to daddy." It was really creepy and also unintentionally loud enough for the entire room to hear and be creeped out by. We could not stop laughing.
- Today was apparently Self Portrait Day. Kari started doodling on her score sheet, and when Tariq asked what it was, she said it was a self-portrait. It was really cute and pretty realistic. Then Lou decided to draw a self-portrait too because he's a competitive weirdo.
It's a surprisingly good likeness!
We also learned some fabulous new words today!
al: a tree (I love random awesome two-letter words!)
zax: a kind of tool (a tool with a high point value!)
saucebox: a saucy person (at least, according to the dictionary, but I think it sounds kind of dirty)
quean: a harlot (!!)
::edit:: I forgot to mention the part of today's Scrabble when Lou to had to run and get his calculator so he could show everybody how to spell words like "shell oil", "hell", and "boobs" upside down.
