so i went home for easter weekend.
Thursday: I worked in the morning, then packed up the rest of my stuff and headed out a little before 1pm. on the road, i drove through Sidnorsville (SIDNORZ!!) and also heard "Dirty Diana" by michael jackson for the first time ever (after trying to guess 10 michael jackson songs while playing outburst a few weeks ago and hearing jorn yell out Dirty Diana! at like the last second and it was actually on there). i drove up 220 to roanoke and then took 81 all the way to route 78, and then 78 to the PA turnpike NE extension south. the 78 bit is a little different--i had been taking 81 to the PA turnpike, but this 78 thing is quite a bit quicker. i made it to hatfield in 8 hours, including two stops for gas. also notable was the fact that when i left greensboro, it was bright and sunny and like 80 degrees out. the weather was still gorgeous when i stopped an hour later for gas just over the VA border. the next time i got out of the car, in PA, it was about 45 degrees and windy and miserable. phucking North. when i got to hatfield, i stopped to get my mom some flowers. i wanted to get her two balloons as well (because Lauren-the-good-daughter stopped by the other day with one balloon, so i wanted to get two), but by the time i got to the clemens, the floral/balloon section was closed, so i just picked up a bouquet in a cute flower pot.
friday: sat around the house with my mom all day. we played nintendo and chatted and generally had a really nice day. i also did 5 loads of laundry. mrs. kletzel and allie stopped by with pizza for lunch, which was also really nice--it had been a while since i had seen allie. they brought the pictures from her wedding, too. the conversation at one point turned to Peeps (you know, the easter marshmellow suger-coated treat), and my mom wondered aloud if one could tour the Peep factory, since other factories offer tours (like ben & jerry's, vermont teddy bear, hershey's, crayola, etc). allie said, "hey, if you went, you'd be seeing a Peep show!"
friday night i hung around with my parents--dad made shrimpy pasta, a family favorite, with appropriate holiday bunny-shaped pasta. then we played Rummikub for a while, and then we played Yahtzee. we didn't actually have a Yahtzee board, but we found some old packs of scoresheets--one pack was from like 1973 or so, and the other was from when i was a kid (complete with sheets from old games in the back in my kid handwriting). a fun night.
saturday: my dad helped my mom head out for a haircut (unfortuitously scheduled), and i went to brunch with the girls. good stuff. then i went over to colleen's, where laur and colleen and i got ready for our 5-year class reunion. we didn't know what to wear--for a regular class reunion, we would've worn nice dresses, but our reunion was held in a bar. but we didn't want to wear bar clothes. i ended up in a pretty new skirt and a plain white top; coll wore a green top and black capri pants, and laur wore a striped shirt and a short denim skirt that looked really cute on her. a few hours later, we discovered we would've been just fine in jeans. oh well.
the reunion was actually really fun--a lot of people showed up. i chatted with brooke evans (who's working at planet hollywood in nyc while looking for acting jobs), mark sesso (law school), rachel welsh (married, so not welsh anymore, and working in insurance while in a band with her sister), dave mccormick and dan stairiker and some other people too. dan richardson promptly got drunk and started telling colleen and i how hot we are (with his hands all over coll's ass; she near hit him). john shelly got pretty drunk (he was really uncomfortable when he came in) and told me repeatedly how much he loves me. i didn't talk to as many people as laur and colleen did, mostly because a lot of the people who were in my classes weren't there--i'm guessing they're all in grad school or something and couldn't make it. anyway, YVETTE ANTONI AMY HENDRICKS NICK HOOVER KATIE ROBERTS KATIE SKALAK, you were missed at the reunion and you better make it next time. i talked to jen ford too, who is still incredibly cute and way cooler than i will ever ever be (in that katie pierce kind of way that makes me just really want to be someone else), and i feel like i sounded really dumb in front of her, but by then i was getting a migraine. Fun! it was smoky and loud in there, which might have contributed, but anyway i felt miserable, and it was around 9pm anyway, so laur and coll didn't mind leaving, and coll drove me back to her house and i didn't throw up and then i drove myself home (which was better than having someone else drive me--i could concentrate on something, which helped the nausea, and could cling to the wheel, which helped my shaking hands). told my parents i was sick, called coll to let her know i was still alive and had made it home, used the bathroom, took some aspirin, and went directly to bed by around 10:15. my dad looked in on me later and i woke up a bit, and by then i felt absolutely fine again. whateva, i'm sure the 10-year reunion will be better.
sunday: happy easter happy easter! did the easter basket thing, then played zelda with my parents some more (we NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED a gamecube NOW), and ate a nice easter dinner (which ws turkey and mashed potatoes instead of the usual ham and pineapple and scalloped potatoes, because i have always absolutely hated that dinner and now that i'm a grownup people don't make me eat it anymore). that night mom and i watched Teh Ten Commandments and it was really fun, as always. every female character in the movie has at least one opportunity to say mournfully, "Oh Moses, MOSES!" we got a big laugh out of the scene where death passes over moses' house, because his brother aaron chants through the whole scene and really got on our nerves, and we wanted moses to turn around and whack him one, or else threaten to throw aaron out where the angel of death could get him if he didn't shut up. the next scene after that is at dawn, when the slaves can finally leave, and a trumpet guy comes out with aaron so aaron can make the proclamation, and we're all like, oh no, not YOU, YOU'RE not going to the promised land. made fun of joshua's funky hat like we do every year:
Joshua: gather all ye people of israel--
us: and admire my hat!
Joshua: Moses, all the people have gathered--
us: and they all like my hat!
in the middle of the movie, we clicked channels and watched a really neat special on the learning channel about archaological evidence for the existence of atlantis. it was cool. whatever happened to that thing where i was going to be an archaologist? that was the plan when i was six years old, even. how did i forget about that?
anyway. monday i drove back to greensboro. again, it only took 8 hours. hit horrible rain outside of harrisburg, but it brightened the further south i got, till by the time it was evening in southern virginia it was sunny and warm and pleasantly humid out, and all the trees were green and some were purple, and it was a lovely drive. i killed some time on the road by playing the "when i hit the lottery" game, which involves planning out in minute detail what i'll do with my millions. this took up almost 100 miles of boring virginia, which was nice.
and i stored a bunch of my stuff at my parents' house, too, which was really good--all the holiday decorations, and some winter clothes and winter pajamas and scarves and hats. good stuff.
