today at work (can y'all tell i'm a little bored?) i brought in some things to put on my desk. shelly was training me the past few days, so her stuff has been out until this morning, when she officially moved to her new spot. i brought in a calendar (a free wildlife one--may is a pair of madagascaran chameleons) and the lady of shalott picture that fell off my wall at home, the desk calendar book that i wasn't using at home, some hand lotion, and a couple of pictures: one of my parents and one of the chancellors that my dad printed out and sent to me, and the cute one of jorn with dinky sitting on his head. i also brought in a snow globe that my mom gave me last christmas that has our picture in it, and my luxor las vegas mug (to put rubber bands and paper clips and pens in, since i don't have any desk drawers). i also brought in dinky and beak, my little beanie friends. they're sitting on the bookshelves (which contain absolutely nothing that is of any use to me). i might bring in li'l snorlax and li'l pika next week, too. i want to bring some more thumbtacks (there aren't any in the supply room?) and some more pictures, and different cds tomorrow, and hopefully a little plant that i've repotted.
yes, here at this job i get my own cube that i can decorate how i want (instead of (like on other temp jobs i've done) filling in for a secretary on vacation and having to look at someone else's kids all week). i get my own id badge (though it is pictureless, and therefore less exciting), my own logins and passwords for all the online systems, which is also really exciting--i almost *never* get my own email account. the problem, though, is that someone from trc spelled my name wrong on the initial email they sent over here, so now hr and all the other systems think i'm roxanne halphine. how goddamned annoying. debbie told me she'd try to get it fixed, but she's on vacation this week, so who knows when that'll happen (or if it even can, since once they create an account, can they modify something big like the name? they'd have to be able to, people get married and stuff!). but honestly, i wonder which trc person doesn't know how to spell my name? they know who i am when i walk in there and they greet me by name. and i had to stop by several times to get the paperwork for this job filled out. if they had looked at my name just once on any of the papers i had to sign, they would've seen how to spell it. wdp?
