supercheesegirl: (book - medieval)
This was highly recommended by my friend Liam. Science fiction: Tom, a modern-day historian, is trying to figure out why the town of Eifelheim was abandoned during the Middle Ages, since judging by its advantageous location it should have been resettled after the plague years. Dietrich, pastor of the town in 1348, becomes a leader when some strange travelers arrive who are very far from home.

Overall, a little heavy on the science for me--both the modern physics theory and the medieval natural philosophy. But it's possible to skim it and get the gist, so I never felt lost in the story. Overall, a really worthwhile read, especially if you like science fiction, stories about interstellar travel, and historical fiction.

::edit:: This was book #111 for the year! Shooting for a total of 130. I think I can do it. I've got some good stuff lined up.
