oh yeah, last night i decided to join BMG. i got a thing in the mail from them for the first time in like forever, and it was 12 cds for the price of one. jorn helped me figure out what the cost would *actually* be with the shipping, and it works out that i'll get 12 cds for roughly five bucks each. that's pretty good. so i joined. the cds that i chose for my first seven "free" cds are:
-Jennifer Lopez: On the 6
-the Muppet Show: Music, Mayhem, and More (25th Anniversary Collection)
-Shakira: Donde Estan las Ladrones?
-Lynyrd Skynyrd: (something, i don't remember what, the best of maybe?)
-Simon & Garfunkel: best of
-Dirty Dancing soundtrack
-Bon Jovi--Slippery When Wet
this kinda shows how behind i am in my cd purchases. i don't think i've bought a cd for myself since i got Ben Folds' Rockin' the Suburbs in september 2001. i figured it was about time i started expanding. most of the ones i ordered are things i know all the words to because my mom or sarah owns it (lynyrd skynyrd, shakira, simon & garfunkel), or that i used to have on tape but lost (bon jovi). j lo and dirty dancing are just things i should have had years ago. and who can resist the muppets?
i'm pretty happy with my selections, although i think jorn's a little disappointed in me. i mean, he's worked so hard to show me different bands and stuff, and i go and order j lo. but in my defense, out of the more jorn-ish music the bmg catalog had listed, it was all either things he already owns (and, therefore, that i don't need to buy) or that *he* wants. and i'm not going to order, for example, the new roots cd, when i know he's just going to get it eventually.
i was kind of torn, though--i wanted the frida soundtrack, too, but i had put that on the birthday list i sent to my mom. ditto for the new chieftains cd. and i was thinking about getting the eagles' best of, or the best of genesis, or sheryl crow's tuesday night music club, but i wanted the others more. (plus, jorn looked really disgusted when i mentioned the sheryl crow. but that *is* a great album.)
and happy birthday to allen ginsberg (77 today), and happy death-day to franz kafka (1924).

...It's ok. We all go through phases. My first CD was Astrolounge by Smashmouth. That's a scar I'll carry for the rest of my life. I hope you get through this J-lo thing before I come and visit you guys.
PS I have a theory that J-lo is really a pen name for Jay Leno. Kind of like a Milly Vanilly sort of thing. He's just too ashamed of his ridiculously girly lyrics and feminine voice to come out and say it. Oh, that and he's like 80 years old. So he hired this woman (Whose name conveniently fits the nickname) to get up on stage and lip-sync for him. Opens up some rather interesting questions, no?

DJ's on commercial stations are notoriously bad at naming everything they play. Confusion is rampant.
