Went jogging tonight--twice in one week! It was warm in the afternoon but cooler and windier by the time I went out at 6, but I was dressed appropriately in sweats and earmuffs so I still enjoyed my jog.

Today I took a sick day and got all my yearly poking, sticking, and prodding done at once: routine bloodwork in the AM, then dermatologist, then my gyn annual after lunch. I need to have a mole removed (the one on my right breast, you guys, I kind of loved that mole), and I learned the new intel that chicks my age only need a pap smear once every two years. The real take-away here was--no speculum today! I was totally delighted. She still did an exam, but hell, I don't care how many fingers she had to stick up there as long as none of them were piloting a speculum.

I went to the Bryn Mawr Birth Center for my annual today. A midwife did my prodding. This was research into the whole baby-having thing. I really liked the midwife and could imagine being pleased to have her be the person to hand me a squalling bloody infant, so that's cool. I like the Birth Center idea because they have nice facilities to be all crunchy granola, using-a-midwife, "I want to sit in a hot tub while I'm in labor", but at the same time, Bryn Mawr Hospital is right across the street, it's the hospital my PCP recommended for birthing, and they can get you there fast if something goes wrong. A woman we know from church recently had a home birth with a midwife, the thought of which freaked me the hell out (not only because what if something goes wrong, but also because, holy crap that's a lot of blood and mess on my bedroom floor). I also have no particular attachment to my current home. The Birth Center thing seems like a good compromise between the home birth and the hospital birth. So we're considering that. For the kid we're not yet pregnant with.

My girly doctor does the hippiedippie midwife stuff. She's like 6' tall and Canadian (makes the poking fun because whenever I cringe she says "so soooorry" in her funny accent) and all into the natural be a woman stuff. So you might even find a OB that is into the natural thing too.
