the ren faire yesterday was really fun. there was a guy selling horns (you tie them on your head) for ten bucks a pair, and he made a killing because they looked so cute. and they stay in place really well too, mine hardly moved all day. pretty impressive for some clay and a shoelace.
it was really different from the PA ren faire; some things were better, some things not as cool. the cast included people dressed up like fairies, which was neat--the PA ren faire usually endeavors to be somewhat historically accurate, hence no fairies in the cast. yesterday's cast included the oak king, the holly king, the fairy of the compost heap, an ice fairy, a rock man (who was awesome during the chess game), and a few others. the actors weren't great--they were better fighters than actors--but the best line of the day didn't come from the actors at all:
overheard at the tournament of arms: what? you think the king looks like uncle larry?
that cracked me right up.
now i'm off to start my new job at the H.G. Otis House. and it's raining beautifully, just in time for the walking tour of historic Beacon Hill. woot.
