What a fantastic read this was. Appropriate and wonderful for YA readers, but with so much depth and beauty and sadness for the adult reader too. Most of the twists at the end took me by surprise - one of them I caught only a few paragraphs before it happened, and one of them shocked me completely with how perfect it was. Highly recommended, and I'll be looking for more from Valente.
