For the most part I loved this book. The language and storytelling were spot-on, Grossman absolutely nailed the voice of an awkward brilliant teenager, and overall it's the kind of fantasy novel that I wish more fantasy novels were. Grossman plays beautifully with tropes and concepts from series like Narnia and Harry Potter while leaving no doubt that this book is definitely for adults. The only thing that detracted a bit for me was that our hero Quentin was SUCH a downer it was sometimes hard to read. But overall, really liked this, and I'll be looking for the next one.
