hey y'all. this weekend rocked your mama's hizzouse. yay. friday night i hung around home waiting for sarah and cleaning my room, which desperately needed to get done, and tried to throw in a load of laundry. i gathered up all the priority things that needed to be washed, including all the stuff i'd been wearing all week and would need to wear all this week, and then discovered that not only were our new laundry machines not here yet, but the first floor's washer wasn't working. great. all my thermal things, as if they weren't grody enough before, are now further grodified by being mixed in with the rest of the laundry. but that sitch gets rectified, as you'll soon see.

so sarah arrives to my clean room, and dylan suggests we all go out bowling. he knows an all-night place, which was good since it was now 11:00. the seven of us (dann, dylan, rikky, sarah, steve, jorn, and i) all go out bowling. it just happened to be the same bowling alley i had gone to with my parents when we came to boston on vacation when i was 16. neato. we did candlepin bowling first, which sarah had never done before, and i got all pumped up, and then we bowled two regular games. except that jorn and i only bowled one regular game, because his wrist started hurting and i was hurting all over from the fact that my 12-lb. ball is now WAY TOO HEAVY FOR ME. i got this ball when i was 15 or so, and i was all excited to be moving up to a 12-lb. darn. i did most of my bowling using an alley 8-lb, but i did pretty well and the grip wasn't horrible. i'm wondering now if my old bowling ball is still hanging out in my mom's basement. the engraving does say "roxie," which is not a bonus point, but the grip probably still fits, and it would be easier to handle til i get some of my strength back. [you can probably tell from my tone here that i'm thinking of seriously getting back into bowling. dann and i were so psyched to be bowling, and i think we'll be making a habit of it.] and then we all piled into dylan's car and went home and went to bed.

saturday. we slept in big time and got up lazily. dylan made big pancake and we all enjoyed it. then sarah and i decided to take a walk. we were thinking of walking to harvard square and visiting my office so she could see it, and we decided we'd start walking and see how cold we got and turn around if we got too cold. so we made it to harvard square, stopping in a few stores along the way, and while there stopped at wordsworth's and urban outfitters. sarah found some pants. we were going to catch the T back to central but couldn't figure out how to use the token machines, and the line for the teller was really long, so we just walked. we were really cold when we got back, and i really really had to use the bathroom. so we never made it to my office, but we can do that on a warmer day. we had been thinking of going to mr. crepe for dinner, but we were a bit zonked and needed to get out the door to farbs' & miles' party anyway, so we ordered chinese. mary chung, which was the new fav chinese place, has now lost its ranking. even when specifically asked to make the food mild, they put in pepper seeds. and jorn's orange chicken blew ass. sarah said her bean curd was good, though. i also threw in a load of laundry around this time--kahasaye our new landlord had come over and rearranged the laundry machines so that all the working ones were accessible, and he's planning on getting coin-operated ones soon so that no one will have to worry about which person is doing their laundry in which apartment's designated machine. which makes sense, but hopefully the quarter tally won't be too steep.

then we drove over to the party. we picked up maddie on the way. now i know how to get to the apartments of both maddie and miles & farbs without taking the T, and this is a good thing. although miles & farbs really should live closer. and the party was very fun. got to see miles and farbs and susanna and david and amanda rose and some other folks too. read poems, heard poems. good stuff. we left a little early, though, so that i could get to bed and get up the next morning for work.

sunday. got up at 8:30ish to get ready for work at the Otis house. i gave sarah a tour and she seemed to like it, and then i gave another tour to two nice couples. one woman gave me a five dollar tip! i put most of it in the donations jar for the house, but i bought myself a bagel and soda for lunch with the rest of it. i also got myself a caesar salad to go with the bagel, and i felt very healthy. carolyn lent me a really interesting history/historic houses book that i'm excited about reading and am already several chapters into, and then things were slow so laura and i left early. when i got home, i found that poor jorn had been trying to do laundry all day but hadn't been able to get much in, since everyone in the damn building had backed up piles of laundry they were all trying to wash in the same washer simultaneously. but enough laundry got done that i've got thermal underthings AND clean jeans, so i'm happy.

in other news. based on the amount of my paycheck from friday, i did some figuring this morning and i think i have some things figured out. since we're on the every-other-week pay schedule, i'll be getting paid on feb. 6, feb. 20, and march 5. if all goes as planned and nothing major arrives to mess things up, i should be able to pay off dylan and jorn and both my major credit cards by the march 5 check, in addition to paying my usual rent, utilities, and car insurance, and starting up my student loan payments. i will have to be thrifty but i can do it, and i'm really psyched about it. after that, i'll have money for pretty much whatever i want. which means AWP chicago if i can get kip to agree to my taking the time off. also means a game cube and some books and dvds, and eventually a new computer. oh, and actually giving my mom some money for once. paying my own way for a family vacation instead of them covering my part of it. since this summer will be a big vacation (england--my parents' first europe trip, and i know i won't want to miss that), it will feel really good to pay my share. sigh... i feel like i just want february to be over so that i can pay everything back and then move on with things.

the bad news, though, is that i don't think there will be any way for me to make your reading, jay. i really want to go, but i just don't think i can afford to fly to greensboro right now. but i will miss you. :(
