i've got all these fun new icons and i keep forgetting to use them when i leave comments. sillyzor.
anyway, my weekend. it was awesome. friday i drove to PA, and it was... a drive. nothing too awful, nothing spectacular, traffic existent but not bad. i got to hatfield earlier than i was expected, and there was much rejoicing.
saturday was missi's mom's wedding, which was the whole reason for the trip. donna was getting married to george, the guy she's been dating for quite a while and moved in with not too long ago. they planned the wedding for valentine's day on purpose. donna looked really gorgeous, and *so* happy. they were all kissing and dancing and doing all the newlywed stuff, and it was really cute. yay for donna. and there was an open bar, which made it even more fun, especially since colleen drove. yay.
after a minor battle with lauren's hair, colleen drove laur and i to the church, and we got there early enough to be called upstairs for our assistance. donna was doing the last-minute getting-ready things, so we helped by taking pictures, pinning corsages, lint-brushing the bridesmaids' dresses, all that. i felt special. missi was the maid of honor, and george's daughter (also melissa) was the bridesmaid; george's best man was his son andrew, and the usher was i guess a close friend, a guy who seemed pretty nice, but overall i thought it was very nice that they used primarily their own offspring for the wedding party. to save money, donna had asked that lauren be the unofficial photographer--they hired a "real" photographer for the hour immediately after the wedding for the posed pictures, but laur has a good camera, and borrowed the fancy digital camera from work, so it was her job to take a whole ton of pictures over the course of the day. which she was happy to do, being the busybody that she is. :)
so the wedding part was very nice. then coll and i settled in for a nice long wait as they did all the posed pictures, because laur was all running around taking pictures too, i guess as a backup for the paid photographer. george eventually got a bit annoyed with all those posing; he didn't realize that the "cocktail hour" he was paying for at the reception was something he wasn't destined to see. but it was all good, because eventually the picture-taking was complete, and we headed down the road to the open bar. laur and i were psyched because coll drove; when we heard about the open bar, coll's jaw dropped, because she had volunteered to drive only because i had driven all day the day before and laur's car was full of stuff. she had not realized the implications of her actions, but she was a very good sport, just the same. :)
so the reception. by the time we got there, the cheese tray was completely empty. i only assume it was a cheese tray because of the leftover mustard and crackers. you all know how i love a good cheese tray, so i was sad. but... the open bar beckoned! they could afford to do an open bar, by the way, because the wedding was so "intimate": there were only five tables of guests plus the head table, so not a lot of people. laur and i started off with a kahlua & cream each; i moved on to an amaretto & coke, and then to amaretto & ginger ale, which i stuck with for the rest of the evening. i think i had a total of six of those, but i really don't remember. laur at one point discovered chocolate martinis and was set for the rest of the night (she spotted the creme de cacao behind the bar and asked the bartender what it was used in, and when the bartender told her it was for chocolate martinis, a new friendship and love was born). laur got pretty trashed, overall, but she had a really great time. missi's boyfriend mike also got a little drunk when he was supposed to be the DD for missi, and that was partly my fault at least, since we were matching drinks, and i got him a chocolate martini of his own, but missi didn't mind.
anyway. the only guests under 40 were: me, laur, coll, missi and mike, melissa and her boyfriend (also mike--creepy, huh?), andrew and his girlfriend micki, two cousins on george's side (a girl named dana, and i don't remember the boy's name), and another girl who sat with her mom but was maybe 17 and had a very cute dress on. laur and coll and i figured that donna had invited us to make sure people danced, so we made sure to dance a lot. it was so fun, especially once laur and i had some drinks in us. we danced *a lot*. and donna danced like i'd never seen her dance before, and i've known her almost 16 years.
did i mention i wore the sexy red striped dress? the one that i wore to my thesis reading last year that i looked delectably hot in? yeah. it's still a hot dress, especially when i wear my vicki's secret water bra. i was yummy. as was laur, too, because she had several different enhancing contraptions under her dress that made her look a bra size smaller and twenty pounds lighter at least. not that laur isn't beautiful every day, of course. i was just very impressed by the contraptions, especially since i saw her before and after putting the girdle thing on. she said the effect from the bra was also impressive, which colleen attested to, but she already had that on when i got to her house. and i'd like to note that none of laur's enhancing contraptions at all restricted her ability to dance with abandon, nor was she adjusting herself all day. they must be some good contraptions.
anyway, after the reception laur and coll and i met up with rose at a sushi place she directed us to. laur got some sushi, which i tried but wasn't thrilled with. something about it was squishy (maybe the seaweed), so i didn't have a second piece. i got some thai spring rolls, which were yummy, and a coconut something tart for a dessert, which was really yummy but which i couldn't finish. it was good to see rose, too, i always miss her. also, we were pretty much entirely sober by this point, i'll have you know. i think we had pretty much danced it out of us. then coll dropped me off at my parents' at around 11:45, and i got to hug the chancellors, who had been over for cards but were on their way out. and i went to bed, and had to pee mightily in the morning. yay for drinking. i'll post about the rest of the weekend later.
