so i just went in the bathroom and my hair is not that bad. nor is it incredibly poofy. it's not as cute as it was yesterday, but it's at least okay.

in other news. last night i did my nails for the first time in ages. my toenails too. i'm kind of out of practice so they don't look as nice as they *could*, but i'm still feeling pretty good that my nails are nice. freshman year in college, i had a MWF 9:00 class and then nothing til after lunch, so i got in this nice routine of doing my nails between class and lunch on wednesdays. it got so that people were all wanting to see my nails every wednesday when i got to the caf. it made me so happy to have pretty nails, like even though that spring ended up being a crappy horrid semester at least my nails were pretty. and today my nails are pretty.

after reading jerod's recent post, the thought occurred to me that there might be a wafflehouse near the hotel where we're staying in baltimore. that would totally make my fucking weekend. OMG.

oh, and yesterday i got a new nice black purse to carry to the wedding. i think it's going to be a really good weekend. yeah.

I used to use the state of my nails as an indication of my overall health and stress levels. Currently, they are just the right not-too-long length, filed, buffed, and damn healthy looking...which would indicate I'm not so stressed I'm chewing on them, and not so depressed I'm ignoring my appearance (except for that minor detail that buffing smooths ridges and bumps which indicate stresses). I'm feeling like I'm taking care of myself...minor achievements, you know? I just started doing them again, myself.

Um...Jell-o and vitamin E are wonderful if you want to make them nice and strong, BTW. Maybe you knew that.

i've got some vitamin E handcream, so that makes sense, but jello? seriously? like, dipping them in jiggly red jello?

has it been proven or anything that bumps and ridges do indicate stress? my nails always have a lot of ridges. haven't buffed them in ages, though--i've been very unattentive to my nails since i moved up here. i think it stems from being the only girl in an all-boy apartment. i was so excited i had filed them to a nice length and everything two days ago. i hate it when they get too long and then one breaks and it looks all odd next to the long ones.

No, not external, internal. Eating gelatin strengthens your nails something fierce, so does taking vitamin E supplements (external application of vitamin E, while some studies show works, there's apparently no proof). But careful; too much vit E seems to make them so hard they become rigid and break more.

Vertical ridges (moon to tip) don't seem to indicate stress, I have them all the time. Horizontal bumps, though, seem to. I remember a more scientific approach to palmistry saying that since nails grow out in a period of 4-6 months, any large bumps in the growth could indicate there was perhaps some major stress or shock, and given their position, you could kind of guess when. I have found this to be mostly true, at least with me (and it makes sense, when you consider that stress or depression often mean worse nutrition).

I didn't know you were that fond of Waffle House. I should freeze some and send it to you; we've got like 8 of them in town.

see, that's what living in the south did to me. and jorn too, he loves the Wa Ho more than i do. but i really don't think freezing it would work--it's got to come right off the stove, all greasy, and get flung at you by the busy waitress. besides, i don't think scattered covered hashbrowns would freeze very well. but thanks for the thought!!
