my trip itinerary:
Day 1: Thursday July 1: fly to London.
Day 2: Friday July 2: free day in London.
Day 3: Saturday July 3: Drive from London to Stratford-upon-Avon, visit Shakespeare's house. Continue to York for walking tour, cathedral visit.
Day 4: Sunday July 4: Drive through the Lake District, pretend to be Jane Austen. Cross into Scotland to hotel in Glasgow.
Day 5: Monday July 5: Sightseeing tour of Edinburgh, free afternoon in Edinburgh; back to Glasgow for the night.
Day 6: Tuesday July 6: Drive through Robert Burns country; ferry to Belfast in Northern Ireland. Sightseeing tour. On to Dublin for the night.
Day 7: Wednesday July 7: Morning sightseeing tour of Dublin, free day.
Day 8: Thursday July 8: Depart Dublin for Kildare, Kilkenny, and Waterford. Visit to crystal factory.
Day 9: Friday July 9: Depart Waterford; ferry to Pembroke in South Wales. Visit Cardiff and Cardiff Castle. Overnight in Newport, Wales.
Day 10: Saturday July 10: Cross back into England to visit Bath (pretend to be Jane Austen again). Visit Stonehenge; visit Salisbury cathedral. Overnight in London.
Day 11: Sunday July 11: fly back home.
so yes, a bus tour. every time the itinerary says "sightseeing tour", i think it means we drive through something on the bus and all look out the windows at it. but for my parents' first trip overseas this will be perfect and my mom won't have to obsess over all the travel details because they take care of all that. and i know for a fact that i won't be the only person under 40 on this trip--one of my mom's teacher friends from work and her husband signed up for the same trip and they're about my age. my mom is so excited about this trip that she hasn't slept for the past few nights, i think. my dad got an extra memory pack for his digital camera, so you can expect lots of pictures.
