about a year or so ago, i was living in greensboro, driving home from somewhere when i heard a song i really liked on the UNCG radio station. when i got home later that night i asked jorn if he knew it. the only characteristics i could identify about the song were that 1) it used guitars, 2) the singer reminded me of the guy from Belle & Sebastian because he sounded british and kind of gay, and 3) this line: "if a double decker bus / crashes into us / to die by your side / is such a heavenly way to die." jorn puzzled about it for a while, called the dj at the station (this being several hours later, it wasn't the same dj who had played the song), and together they figured out that the song was probably by The Smiths.
when we moved to boston, i found out that dannbrown really likes The Smiths, and i kept meaning to borrow something and listen to it. i mentioned this to dann again a week or so ago, and he told me he had a Smiths' singles album that he didn't need, since he had all those songs on their original albums and on his ipod, and he offered to give it to me. last night he left it with my mail. today i listened to it, and i heard that song that i heard for the first time a year or so ago. it's track 18, "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out." it's still a really pretty song.
i feel rather... fulfilled. and satisfied.
