so, teh sims.
is it my imagination, or are skill points harder to earn once you’ve already earned a bunch? i seem to remember when i first started playing that the sims could earn, say, a creativity or logic point really quickly, or even a body point in two hours or so. now that they’re further along in their careers, though, it seems like one creativity point can take all night (in sim-time, that is), and a body point can take several nights. am i just being paranoid, or is this an established thing?
also--there were no insects in the original sims, other than the flies that appear over the trash or a plate of old food, but now that i’ve installed livin’ large, there’s patches of nasty-looking orangey bugs that appear on the floor from time to time, and the characters have to spray them to get rid of them. do these bugs have a purpose, or will they eat the people or take over the house or something if i don’t keep them in check?
and here’s a character update: sims rox, sarah, and karibeth live together as teh crackhead family. the rox sim is pretty far along the entertainment career track--she’s now a feature star in the movies. kari sim is near the end of the outdoor activity track, she was recently a bush pilot and a treasure hunter, and now she’s a grand prix racecar driver. sarah is only about halfway through the athlete track, but now she’s an MVP. i’m having problems getting them farther than this, though, first of all because they need so many friends--they’ve got ten now, and they need two more to advance again, but i’ve used up all the interesting people in the neighborhood and i’m having trouble maintaining the friends they already have. also, they all need body points and charisma points to advance again, but working out makes them really tired and miserable and it takes *forever*, and they don’t get anything else done. i know if i play with some of the other families for a while, it’ll help (ie, other families can befriend them), but i’m not sure how to get past the skill point obstacle. ideas?

NOOPAHLAH!!!!!!
Date: 2002-06-14 05:55 pm (UTC)From:As far as the roaches are concerned, I never have figured out what triggers them to show up, but they take room score down as long as their in the room. But if you hire teh maid, she'll spray them. Roaches were SO annying when I just had Livin' Large. They fixed this in House Party so that the sims don't freak out when there's bugs all the way on the other side of the yard.
Unfortuately, body and charisma are the two hardest skill points to aquire, becasue there aren't many ways to get those [as opposed to something like creativity]. All I can suggest is have a sim go to work every other day and use the extra day of free time to do nothing but work on your skills. Or if they have all the skillz they need to advance and just need friends, take the day off of work and call up a few people for some one-on-one friendship building time. As long as they don't miss work two days in a row, they'll keep their jobs. You cna rotate which sim gets to stay home each day so you can concentrate on one sim while the other two are out earning some money.
Do you have a pool built? Althouh you don't see the skill bar over their heads, swimming in the pool help a sim earn body points - it's more fun to them than the weight machine is and they don't tire out as quickly.
I have been SOOOOO slack-ass on playing with my sims. I actually statred a new house in a new neighborhood when I installed Hot Date and Vacation. It's just me, and I have no other houses on the block - I'm only using friends that I meet downtown. I have a job as a piano tuner right now. And I only have one friend. How pathetic! =-)
We should send our sim families to the teleport center @ thesims.com so I can download your families and put them in my neighborhood!

when swimming, if the skill bar doesn't appear over their heads, then how do you know they're improving their body skill? will it go up then the next time they sit down at the weightlifting bench?
i've also discovered that if they skip work a day and then don't answer the phone, they don't seem to get in trouble at their jobs. is this your method too? and i have hired the maid in every one of my houses--even if she stays seven hours sometimes, it's so worth it when my sims don't have to do the dishes and take out the trash and spray the pests. :)

If a sim skips a day of work, it still counts against them, even if they don't answer the phone. All answering the phone does is warm the sim that if he/she missed work tomorrow, they will be fired. Hence I don't answer the phone in those instances because I know what's going to happen. But even if you don't answer the phone, it still counts against you. Basically, all you need to do it go to work every other day and not worry about the phone. Just keep in mind you won't be bringing hoe as much money that way. I rarely let my sims skip work anyway - only if there's some specific goal I'm working towards and want to build up a skill quickly. And I never let kids skip school.
And remember - the maid will only work 8 hours on any given day. If your house is so messy that it will take her more then 8 hours to finish, she will leave some of your house uncleaned. Hey - she has a life, too!
