I'm back from the trip. It was a really good weekend. On Sunday I saw so many people at the (freakin' ass cold) barbecue: Chancellors, Kletzels, Bessie & Adela, Steph & Harry. Joanna and Samantha came over with their parents for a bit and it was great to see them. Jo was sporting a Ren & Stimpy shirt I was lusting over: it said, "Quick, man, cling tenaciously to my buttocks!" and depicted Powdered Toast Man. She said no one ever understands it, to which I replied, "But that's why you wore it today! Because you knew I'd get it, and laugh, and totally covet it!" And I do. I really really need one. Apparently Dan got it for her in Florida somewhere and she's never seen another one like it. I need to tell him to find one for me...
Also saw Alli. Excited about the pregnant thing. Wow. I've known this girl since we were born, practically, and now she's having a baby. Jorn, you should be reassured at how scary this is. Also saw Vish and Vinnie and Chris C. Vishie is a Republican lawyer now--I told him how disappointed I am--but it was great to see him. Vinnie might come visiting. Chris is all army-guy now, and he's going to call me when he's back in town over Christmas. And he called James on his cell before he left--it's been ages since I've seen James, but apparently he's doing great. Learning Arabic, looking forward to being a translator. He even said something in Arabic for me. And he's also getting married soon, which is good. He deserves a good girl.
Also got to spend a goodly amount of time with Laur and Coll this weekend, saw their apartment. Looking good. Met Coll's man--he's pretty okay, and I've probably heard him talk more in the two times I met him this weekend than I ever heard Steve (her previous) talk ever in all the time they were together. Saw Rose at brunch on Monday, had our obligatory book chat--passed her Being Dead by Jim Crace, and she gave me some recommendations. I wish I could spend more time with that girl. She needs an lj.
This weekend was filled with many reminders as to why I love Laur. Not that I need them, but, you know. With her holding the opinions and beliefs she holds, I sometimes focus on that more than on all the other wonderful things about her.
And this morning I had an email from amazon saying my order shipped--Conan the Barbarian, Conan the Destroyer, and Red Sonja are on their way to my house. Rawk. \m/
