Last night we watched several episodes of Angel: "Slouching Toward Bethlehem" up to "Apocalypse, Nowish". I'm glad Cordy has her memory back, although of course she can't remember why or how she left HigherBeingLand, and of course that stuff happened with Connor and Angel totally saw it. I'm actually becoming desensitized to the angst. It's just ongoing. It never stops. If Joss would actually let his characters get a teensy bit of happiness, then the angst would have more impact. Like when Tara died, for example. We felt that pain. But this season of Angel is just all angst without letting up. Oh, and the memory thing in "Spin the Bottle" felt done to me. I mean, pretty much the same thing happened in "Tabula Rasa" in Buffy season 6, except that in "Spin the Bottle" they all thought they were sixteen--like the writers thought, "We can't make them all lose their memories completely because we just did that last season on Buffy, so we'll... make them think they're teenagers! That'll be fun!" Meh. Don't get me wrong, though, I'm definitely enjoying watching it. (And for any who don't know, this is my first time watching this season, so don't spoil me for upcoming events.)

I'm sneezing like crazy and my nose is running a marathon. I hope this goes away soon. I'm such a grumpy sick person, and if I don't get better, I'll soon become a grumpy, sick, and menstruating person, and I really don't want to do that to my roommates.

I agree, "Spin the Bottle" did feel very done. Of course, I watched it much later after seeing "Tabula Rasa" due to my wacky out of orderness with Buffy, but I know what you're saying. However, "Spin the Bottle" is totally worth it for TeenageWesley and "Nobody touch my arms!" ::giggles::

Completely off topic, but I was wondering how you felt about being called Roxy? Because Alli and I tend to refer to you as such, and I'm afraid I'm going to slip and say that in a comment and then you'll want to hurt me. And apparently you can punch well.

I loved Fred's strong belief that everything would be cooler if they could find some weed. :)

I generally don't like being called Roxy--it has to do with my grandma and mom calling me that, and also to do with a few choice middle school nicknames I try not to think about. So it's not my preference, but there are some people who can get away with it. It's okay if you two want to call me that. :)

And hey, I said I can punch things *better*. I wasn't very good at punching things in the first place, so I doubt I'd be considered a very good puncher. I mean, I say Ow when I have to hit a volleyball.

Yeah, Fred and the weed and her conspiracy theorizing were great. And Liam. :)

I haven't yet called you Roxy online, and I'm hoping I won't, but for some reason, Alli and I decided to call you Roxy whenever we're talking about you (in context of Livejournal, like "Roxy said this and it was funny!"). But I'll make sure to just call you Rox online.

I bet you could hold you own. You've got spunk! :)

Well, I won't get upset if you do slip and call me Roxy. It's okay. :)

I bet you could hold you own. You've got spunk! :)

You crack me up. :)

I like how you think I'm joking. If I met you in a dark street somewhere, i'd be 'fraid.

thank you for titling your entries that talk about Angel with Angel...i don't want to find out what happens ahead of time :) we're only through the 1st dvd. i skipped reading that part of your journal today :) :) happy watching :) :) yay angel :) :)

I'll continue doing that, or else I'll lj-cut it. Didn't realize you were watching and/or were behind us. We've only watched partway through disc 2, so we're not *that* far ahead of you, but a lot happens in those few episodes... :)

we're watching tonight so i expect to catch up quickly. it's hard for us to not watch like 4 episodes in a sitting.

thanks so much :) yer a peach!

We do the same thing: one episode isn't enough, and two is just halfway so you watch the third, and then you only have one more left to go so you might as well just finish the disc.... :)

You know, I never got into seasons three and four. I mean, the first two seasons just seemed so good and then all of a sudden, I didn't care much anymore. Maybe it's the angst overload you're talking about, or the fact that two of my favorite characters (Lindsay and Kate) left, or the fact that none of the stories seemed to mean anything to me. And some of the Cordelia stuff in season four (the episodes that I managed to catch) was just not good. It felt awkward, like a new show I'm trying out but I don't think it's very good.

Lindsay shows up again eventually, doesn't he? I'm surprised they never brought Kate back again. I was pretty into season 3, but season 4 isn't getting me where it hurts like Joss usually does. I was so excited for season 4 because I was all worried about Angel being stuck in that box at the bottom of the ocean, but I'm also not liking where they're going with the Cordy stuff. Though bringing Wesley back into the fold is a step in the right direction, and I'm really enjoying his "relationship" with Lilah. But yeah, I have to keep watching to see what happens, and I'm interested to see what season 5 is like.

Lindsay, season five, yes... but somehow wrong. I liked the way they left his departure in season two, a great sendoff. The only good part of his return was, you know, shirtless and tattooed.

I think Kate got a full time job on another show.

Dark Wesley... a good thing. I liked seeing other sides of him.

Season 5 is a different animal. I started watching again, and there was a lot of fun, but I think one and two are the only seasons I would really want on DVD.

My take on "Tabula Rasa" vs. "Spin the Bottle."--"Spin the Bottle" written by Joss, therefore wins. ;)

I like them both without feeling the need to compare. Plus, bitch!Cordy rocks as does HeadboyWes. ::giggle::

And the angst? Season 4 isn't my favorite.

HeadboyWes was pretty entertaining. :)

I don't exactly feel the *need* to compare--it's just that while I was watching "Spin the Bottle", I was reminded of "Tabula Rasa", so the comparison made itself naturally. And there was definitely a lot to like about "Spin the Bottle", too. :)

I think Season 4 is a really amazing season. Almost every episodes begins just where the last episode left off and I think the entire season plays out in a few months.

Season 4 is very angsty but I kinda like that. Sometimes things are just dark and just when you think it can't get any worse, it does. My life has been like that at times. So I guess I can relate. I think what is so amazing about the season is to see how the characters relate to each other and themselves in the midst of all the craziness. Their struggle, their story, not the events themselves are what I find so interesting. I think people grow more in times of pain and trauma than they do in the happy times.

Also, I didn't think "Spin the Bottle" was really like "Tabula Rasa" all that much, actually. Yes they both dealt with memory loss but both shows deal with magic and demons and such so it's not like when a demon attacks you're thinking "oh, they did that on Buffy" because of course they did. The shows are similar on some levels but they are VERY different in how the play out those similarities. Angel has always had a much darker turn.

ohiamsotired and it is all Angel's fault. we watched all of disk 2 and the first episode on disk 3 last night and didn't get to bed till 11:30...and we are still exhausted from staying up all night to watch monday night football.

but now i was able to read your entry and say that since we were not buffy watchers, the plot wasn't as over done to us. i'm sure that when we run out of angel we'll probably start with buffy and then i will completely understand why you felt this way.

right now we're just peeved at cordy and think she is now an expendable charectar. don't feel that she's adding much to the whole scene except added drama/angst. will be interested in your thoughts on the rest of dvd #2 :)

You know what I mean about the angst, though? I'm just worn out, it's hard to get upset anymore! You're a few episodes ahead of me now, so I'm betting you're in the middle of some awful post-sex angst. Hopefully we'll be watching more tomorrow night and then we'll chat.

G and I are so pissed that they had sex. it's just so wrong. betcha they made the kid 18 just so he wasn't a minor. grrrrrrr.

we get less and less upset each episode...we're getting used to the tension. its not necessarily bad (the angst), just really heavy.

I said the exact same thing to Jorn the other night when we were watching it! They very conveniently mentioned his age around then, too, just to remind us that he's not jailbait. Heehee...
