Lately I've been really interested in making user icons of myself. At least, I haven't been making any other kinds of icons lately. Farbs has been taking copious pictures of herself with her new digital camera, and I don't have a new camera so I've been doing this. I guess it's because I would like to change how I look, but I'm not having much luck at that in RL so I'm doing it here? Green auras and all. Maybe my self-image is in transition and I'm examining it. Or something. Anyway, this stupid shareware is getting to me (I want real photoshop! on my own new computer!), but I think I've been getting it to do some interesting things. So this is partly a "how's my graphic design" post and partly a self-centered look-at-me post.
These were my first few experiments.
The second and third ones are mostly just goofiness, but the first one I kind of like.
Next batch: pics from Farbo's camera.
First one, with Jorn, you've all seen. Besides that one, I think my favorite from this batch is the fifth, the yellowy one.
Then Rae took some pictures, but the only one I ended up iconning was this:
So next are the mask icons. At first I thought just any mask would do. I found these on goblinart.com, which just has some amazing pieces displayed.
For the second one, I took a pic of a mask, edited out the eyeholes, and put it over my face. Result is kind of terrifying. Reminds me of the scene in Sleepy Hollow where Ichabod's mom gets put in the iron maiden. That scene gave me nightmares. So I figured I would need to get an actual mask and wear it and have someone take my picture. That's where these came from:
The breasty ones were surprising, but not really what I was going for. Second row are all variations on the same, so I might switch back and forth among them (not sure which I like best). First one third row is actually the first mask one I made, but for some reason my software keeps crashing every time I try to mess with it. I'm kind of surprised that it's the only one where the tiara didn't get cut out (I love that tiara). Last two are variations, again, but I kind of like them both.
Thoughts? Suggestions?
