Good news and bad news in the continuing saga of Rox running all her errands like a grownup this week.

We'll cover the bad news first. I went to the dentist yesterday. I was expecting to hear bad news, since the last time I saw Dr. Brian three or four years ago he told me there were some cavities I should be careful of, but I wasn't expecting what my new dentist told me: I need approximately $1500 worth of dental work! Aren't I a lucky girl? Apparently one cavity that's already been filled twice is all cavity-ey again and he wants to scrape it out and put a cap on it. That's if I'm lucky enough to not need a root canal on that tooth. And seven or eight of my other teeth need cavities filled or refilled. He said, you need work done on nine teeth. I said, wait a sec, how many teeth do I have all together? I've got 28 teeth. That works out to roughly a third of my teeth needing drilling. Not good news. The new dentist, at least, is really nice--he's young but not too young, and he explained everything really clearly and really seemed to know what he was talking about, even with prices and payment plans. I guess I looked pretty terrified. I made an appointment for the cap, since that seems to be the most pressing issue, and also the priciest. We'll be prioritizing the rest of the teeth, and my parents said they'd buy me some fillings for Christmas, so that should help. But here I thought I was saving up for a new computer! Guess not!

On to better news. This morning I took the car to get inspected. And I love my new mechanic! He's Paul, at John & Nick's on Mass Ave, and he's so nice. He said he couldn't let the car pass inspection without the mirror. I told him that the guys who inspected it last year passed it without the mirror, and he said that's illegal. Thanks, other mechanics. He said he could give me a temporary sticker if I want to take my time and look into it, but I said I'd rather just get it over with. He made some calls, found me a new mirror that had been remaindered or something so it'll only cost me $68 plus labor. I left the car there for the day; the parts place is going to send over the new mirror and he'll put it on and do an oil change and check the wipers too. Paul is great. I'm going to make it out of this inspection with my car in good shape for less than $200, which is way better than I thought it would be. *And* I got to work early!

But again, I thought I was saving up for a new computer. This being a three-paycheck month, I was thinking I could put a chunk in my savings. Looks like not. Meh. If you catch me even looking at amazon.com you all have permission to yell at me.

Ugh, I'm sorry to hear about your dental situation. Several years ago I found out I needed a root canal. It sucked. I've been going to the dentist dutifully since then. Until this year, that is. I don't have dental insurance (it's not offered through my job) so I've been putting off the dentist. I actually had an appointment and cancelled it after my broken finger + surgery. One medical condition at a time, please.

I'm over the initial shock. Now I just get to deal, on a tooth-by-tooth basis. :) Thanks.

Eep. I am so scared to go to the dentist, last time I went was senior year. We don't even know where there are dentists around here......

I'm sorry about all the work that has to be done. I'm sure if I ever end up going, that'll be me too. Damn money, why can't the dentist just be like, "I'm really sad for you about all your cavities, why don't you just let me fix your teeth for free?"
