supercheesegirl: (me diva princess)
I did *so much* shopping yesterday. Amy (aka "The Girl Who Loves Bags"--she thought that was so funny, btw) and I left my place around 10:30ish in the morning and headed up to Burlington to do some holiday shopping. We did the mall first, and got a lot of shopping done--I know she got a few things for her bf and something for her difficult uncle and some other things, and I got something for Jorn (but I'm not telling!!!) and a little thing for my mom, and something for Sarah Batt, and just generally a lot of stuff. We had lunch at Johnny Rocket's somewhere around 12-12:30, and left the mall around 3:30-4:00.

Next we wanted to hit Kohl's, but I was feeling parched, so we went to Finagle first for beverages. We split a chocolate chip bagel with butter and had a good long chat before moving on with more shopping. Kohl's was good, but not as successful as I'd hoped--found a surprise gift for Jorn's sister Chelsea that I wasn't looking for, but she'll like it, and some other things, but didn't find some other things I was hoping to find. Next stop was Building 19 for mad cheap prices. I know we were back in the car around 5:37, arrived at Bldg 19 around 5:50, only to discover that they close at 6pm! Oh no! So we did some manic shopping--I got part of the gift for my Girlfriends Secret Santa (and I'm not going to say who it is, because I never say and somehow Lauren always figures out who I have anyway) and I got Missi's birthday gift and some cookie tins for cheap--before we were forced to leave. We're hoping to get back out there in the next week or so. We started back home, and after we got part way there Amy asked if I was still up for a bit of shopping--if so, we could hit K-Mart. I was game, so we shopped some more. I picked up Colleen's birthday present and some really, really cute striped tights. While at the K, I also got phone calls from from Colleen (who spent a chunk of the weekend in the hospital with horrid stomach pains and the rest of it feeling awful and trying to sleep) and my mom (who got the dog and has already taken it to PetSmart to pick out his own toys and get his picture taken with Santa). Not the kind of phone calls I could just say, that's nice I'll call you back, so I had to chat a bit. Sorry about that, Amy.

After the K, Amy offered to take me over to her house first so I could pick up the four-foot fake tree she and Tom weren't using this year. So we did that, and greeted Max the kitty who was all skeeved from being left alone all day (Tom's out of town on business, hence the mad shopping). Then Amy dropped me back home with all my packages and a small tree. It was almost 9pm by the time I actually sat down. Sigh. I'm psyched about decorating the tree, though. I'm going to put it in the kitchen, since I already cleared off the table in there that generally holds the mess and put a happy penguin tablecloth on it. I have all my holiday ornaments here in Boston, too. I told Dann I had been looking for a menorah tree topper, so that the tree could be welcoming to all our roommates, but I couldn't find one, so he should feel free to hang dreidels on the thing instead. He said that was okay, and pointed out that his menorah isn't exactly interactive. At which point Jorn and I threatened to tape various christmas trees, Jesuses, Easter bunnies, and Lincoln logs to his menorah. I love my roommates.

And this morning, I was all excited to wear my new stripey brown tights because they were so hellacute. And I put them on, and they totally didn't fit. There were these big seams up the ass that made it so the legs were too short because the seams didn't stretch, so I couldn't get the tights up all the way. I even made a point of checking the size--these were in fact Women's Tights (not Girls'), and they were a size L/XL, supposed to fit anyone 5'6"-6'0", 145-180lbs. If they didn't fit *me* (5'7" and 150lbs), I would really like to see a six foot tall 180-pound woman try to squeeze into these fuckers. I'm a little pissed about the complete waste of money. And I was so excited because I haven't seen any tights this cute yet this year--they were nice and thick to be warm, and horizontal-stripey, and just really cute. I haven't been to Filene's in a while, though, so maybe there'll be something nice waiting for me in the basement. Sigh. Overall, though, shopping was a complete success--there's only a few more things I need to get. And of course I keep finding more things to buy for Jorn. Have to stop that...

Ah, so I'm not the only one who has that issue with hosiery. I just keep wondering if I'm in denial about my actual size or something, every time they don't fit. That and wondering if women bigger than me are, perhaps, just a bit more cunning, considering the tights don't fit someone in the middle range (I'm the same height/weight)?

Glad you were productive. No guilt over not showing up last night--you got stuff done you needed to, and that feels good too (and can get you in the holiday spirit). Some other time.

I want to give those tights to a large woman and videotape her trying to get them on, so I could then send the video to hosiery manufacturers. Further, the video showing would take place in a conference room where all the manufacturers were present, so that after they'd seen the product of their evil they could then attempt to account for their actions and sign legally binding paperwork swearing that they'll do better.

i had a great time yesterday, we should do something similar after the holidays - maybe get a group trip to those outlets or something!

p.s. - let me know if you're up for dinner tomorrow - no worries if you're not. :-)

Hmm. Don't know for sure. I have a dentist appointment tomorrow at 4, so I might just want to go home and eat oatmeal for dinner or something. I'll talk to Jorno tonight and see what he's up for.

ALSO...

BOOOO about the tights - that's CRAPPY. Take them back to the K and get a refund!

That would require *finding* the K--I won't say it's an utter impossibility, but it's certainly something I'd be highly unlikely to accomplish. :\
