Hi y'all. I've been pretty much the opposite of busy lately and it's been wonderful. On Thursday, Jorn and I were hanging out with velvetwaltz, who was visiting this weekend, and we went out to Harvard Square and got food and stuff, very laidback, and that night we just looked at each other and were astonished about how we still had three more days left. It's been a really, really nice vacation. I spent all weekend under the Magic Blanket on the couch playing nintendo and watching nintendo and watching Buffy. The Blanket is Magic because it's so huge and soft and wonderful that it makes you never ever ever want to get up off the couch and eventually you fall asleep there. Definitely one of my favorite xmas presents. I'm really close to beating Windwaker now and I'm happy. We're also only five episodes away from the end of season 7 of Buffy, and that also makes me happy. I saw the very last ep when it was on TV, but otherwise it's all new to me. I really liked "Storyteller", and next up is "Dirty Girls", which I feel like I've heard some things about.

I got an amazon gift certificate for xmas. Combined with last year's amazon gift certificate (I saved it, can you believe it? With all the crap I've bought there in the past year? Don't have a clue why I haven't spent it yet), I now have $50 to spend. I'm thinking about getting the first two seasons of Jem but that would be all the money on one thing and I don't know for sure if I want to do that. I don't know yet how well Jem's going to translate to adulthood, you know? I also need to preorder Angel season 5 and get Firefly, and I still really want the two Storyteller collections (not that they're that expensive, but still) and Angels in America, and the Back to the Future trilogy, and the Indiana Jones collection. But I've got all the Indy movies on tape, so I can get by with that for now, I think. I also want the BBC Pride & Prejudice. Or that amount of money could put a significant dent in the cost of a Star Trek season. So this is difficult. It's a gift certificate, so I want to spend it on something special, you know? Which is why I never spent the one from last year, because I could never decide. I could use the money to buy a Big Thing (like Star Trek) that I'd have to pay the difference on, or I could use it on one Significant Thing (like Jem or Indy) that would use all the money up without me having to pay any extra, or I could get one Normal-ish Thing (like the Storytellers or Firefly) that would be big enough to feel special but would leave enough left over for a book or cd or cheap dvd. And there's a lot of cds and books on my wishlist. I want to find the most effective use of the money, which is difficult because I want everything pretty much equally much. So I am torn. I have to think more.

One of my other very favorite xmas presents is my 7-quart crock pot. I am crocking right now. Could you tell? We're having chicken stew for dinner tonight, all my roommates and I, because the crock pot is large enough to easily accomodate enough stew for me, two normal men, and Dylan too. I am so so excited. My hands still smell like potatoes and garlic from me throwing everything in there this morning and it's driving me nuts.

Oh, and I'm back at work now. You can expect regular weekday posts from me again now. I hope that makes at least a few of you happy. :)

Jem?!

Omigod! That's truly, truly outrageous! =) If you do buy it, you so have to invite me over to watch it with you.

I know! I have such great memories of that show. I still have a bunch of the dolls, too. I'm just scared that when I see it again it'll be stupid, like so many of the shows I loved as a kid. But if I do buy it (and I bet I will at some point), you'll have a standing invitation. :)

My mom got me a hot pink hooded Jem sweatshirt for xmas. It's one of the coolest things I've ever owned.

I say get something that you wouldn't otherwise buy for yourself. For me that would be something like Star Trek because <3 Star Trek but I really wouldn't spend that much on dvd's. I mean, it's ridiculous when you think about it! There's no reason that Buffy can be released and cost less than $50 and Star Trek is over $100! It's the same way with The Sopranos. Great show but it's over priced.

Not that I'm saying you should get Star Trek, just, you know, whatever you wouldn't justify buying otherwise. I say you should buy Firefly. You WON'T regret it. And you'll be so happy. Your life will be infinitely better after seeing Firefly and with the movie coming out this year and all the crazy squeeing from The Amy, Alli and I... well....

i'll second the firefly rec. wonderful show. shame it was cut short.

Firefly is already on the list of things to get this year. I mean, in five more episodes I'll be in Buffy withdrawal, and then Angel withdrawal in February, so it'll be necessary. So even if I don't spend the gift money on it, I'll still end up watching it in the next few months.

I agree on the stuff-I-wouldn't-buy-otherwise thoughts, though. Which is why I was thinking about Jem and Indy, because normally I can't justify making dvd purchases above $40 and I just drool over them. The ish with buying Star Trek is *which* Star Trek to buy, but I think I'd just go with first season of Next Gen. Amazingly tempting. I think that a goal for 2005 will be monthly amazon purchases, because I can afford it, really. I haven't even been buying shoes that often. Hopefully by this time next year I will have purchased all the things I whine about in this post. :)

the first season is worth the buy. i bought it for my parents a couple years ago as a joint mother's/father's day present. and like most things like that they insisted i borrow it once they were done with it. so it's mine now. i just wish i could afford the other six AND the original series dvds. me=probably-not-so-closet trekkie.

Jorn couldn't help himself, he bought the first season of the original series. Excellent stuff. We've been watching whatever Next Gen we catch on SpikeTV, but it's sporadic. There's so much I don't remember...

But have YOU ever gone to a convention?

oh man, i SO want to. my dad found this communicator (original series version) at a salvation army once. it lights up and has all the sounds and everything. it's my dream to get shatner to autograph it one day.

I used to do conventions, when I was in high school. I met some of my favorites, got some good autographs (including a pic of Troi dressed in the wild west cowboy outfit), and there's a picture of a very excited younger me with Garrett Wang from Voyager. Those things are way fun, I wish they had more of them on the east coast.

The other problem with buying ST is once you buy one season will you be tempted to buy the rest. And they are all overpriced! (Which is why I do not have any ST:TNG.)

Date: 2005-01-03 06:22 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] igorxa.livejournal.com
but at least they aren't as overpriced as that borg cube box set of all of them.

Yeah, they sure know how to milk the Trekkers. The studio knows the fans are going to shell out the bucks.

at least they didn't screw them up by declaring them a "work in progress." HAN SHOOTS FIRST!

Did I ask you for a copy of that yet? Because I would so love to have the REAL version.

i'll make them today and hopefully send them out this week with the other stuff i have for you.

I <3 you. No rush, though. :)

Did you SEE the Northern Exposure box sets? You get like 3 episodes and they're packaged in a collectible orange parka. Fucking rip-off, making me cry...

They are bastards, indeed!
