supercheesegirl: (buffy happy)
I feel so silly having done this, but--remember how I was playing the Buffy game for PS2? Well, I got the gamecube version as well. I know, I know. But I tend to like the controls for the GC better than the ones for PS2, so I wanted to see how the GC version handled, and I also wanted a copy I can play for eternity (since the GC is mineallmine and the PS2 is Jorn's and is currently broken). And, I don't know if this is something I never realized in the PS2 version or if it just wasn't an option in that game, but I never figured out how to kill a vampire with anything other than a stake. That got to be really inconvenient when I was fighting five vampires at once with a battleaxe, because you can't pause to switch between weapons, you have to stand there and do it while something pounds you. So I was beating the crap out of the enemy with a sword (more powerful than me just kicking it), using the quick-stake button to kill it, and then having to scroll through all my weapons options to find the sword again to kill the next vamp. Annoying. But now, in the GC version, there's a mortal-wound button or something that lets me actually kill vampires using my sword or axe or whatever. I am so amazingly pleased. I don't think I used up a single stake last night and I played through two levels. One inconvenient thing is that the quick-stake button is in an odd location now, but oh well. I'm still looking forward to playing through the game again. /dork

Watched episode 7 of Lost last night. The one where Sayid gets mysteriously clonked in the head while attempting to triangulate the signal. Maybe now we'll finally find out who else is on the damn island. Also it was the one where Charlie proves his quality. I was proud of him. I still like Locke. I also liked how Michael was able to leap into action and be useful, and I liked how his son saw him do it. That was good.

After watching Lost, Jorn and Dann and I went to see Screaming Men at the Brattle. It's a documentary about the Finnish men's screaming choir, who I first heard about through Emily at the beginning of December, and then coincidentally they were showing the documentary! And it was really cool. We wanted to go to the 5:30 show, but that ended up being a misprint on the calendar so we then planned to go to the 9:30 show, which we found out when we got there had been bumped to 9:45, and because of technical difficulties didn't actually end up starting til almost 10:30 (they started it once but soon discovered that the sound track for diologue wasn't working, though we could hear the screaming and background noises, so they had to fix it and start over). But the movie was worth it. Dann now wants to move to Finland, and I don't blame him. I personally have a much stronger inclination to visit Finland now than I ever had before, if they can produce something as cool as the men's screaming choir.

Tonight, I've decided, I'm going to take a bath. I think I have some bath crystals that Jorn's mom (or someone) gave me ages ago that I've never used because I never take baths because our tub's always grody. But it was just cleaned last week, so I'm good to go. It's amazing how first of all I had to schedule a bath and secondly how much I'm looking forward to it. Yay.

Oh, and Joy Division? Other than that one song, I'm not so excited about them. (Jorn made me another mp3 cd today, so probably I'll be posting about music all day.)

I listened to the screaming. . . it's bizarre. . . it's something that I would expect in a Tim Burtonesque nightmare. . . still cool. . . best thing that I have seen come out of Finland. . . when I was in St. Petersburg, there were always a ton of Finnish tourists, and they are the rudest, meanest people in the world. They like to get drunk and then raise fighters. . . They are like the Irish of eastern Europe. . . well, them and the Latvians. . . and Georgians. Finland is a gorgeous country. Very wonderful sites. Just not the best people in the world. And the language is impossible to learn. Actually, now that I thnk about it, Finns, are a lot like a typical New Englander. . . you know, the kind that wear Red Sox hats while watching the Bruins and guzzling Sam Adams? The kind that will punch another man because his kid touched their kid during a hockey game? That kind. . .
