supercheesegirl: (watch out!)
So Jorn and Dann both made really good long posts about this weekend (Dann's is f-locked, sorry), but I'm still going to make an attempt to tell y'all all about it. Because it was seriously crazy, and deserves some lj-documentation. (I thought about lj-cutting it, but it's such a good story it deserves to take up yards of your f-list space; at least, the part about Saturday does.)

Friday night. For some reason I can't remember a whole lot of Friday night. Jorn met me in Harvard Square at Pandemonium and I bought three books (already read one of them, too). Then we went to Grendel's Den for dinner, and we totally snagged a little table in a back corner that was perfect. Tables there are always hard to find, so we were psyched. We got the cheese fondue and it rocked, and we had a really awesome conversation. Then on the way home we stopped at Newbury Comix and Jorn got an import cd that he hadn't been able to find before so he was all excited, and I got a Legolas action figure to go with Boromir and Eowyn (and now I'm done with LotR figures, thank you) and the soundtrack to The Life Aquatic. It is a seriously awesome cd and I love it. We stopped at Blockbuster on the way home, too, but couldn't decide on anything and we were tired anyway. I have no idea what we did when we got home.

Saturday I mostly sat around reading, which was absolutely lovely. Jorn and I both received phone calls from our mothers asking if it was snowing in Boston yet, which should have warned us about what was in store. Saturday night we were supposed to go to Jorn's company's holiday party, but it got cancelled on account of the impending blizzard, but as it turned out, Jorn's friends Jantine and Erin had reserved a hotel room downtown so they wouldn't have to worry about driving home after the party, and since they had the room anyway they said we should come on down and party there. We brought Dann along with us and hit the liquor store on the way. In addition to Jantine and Erin, also in attendance were Nicole (Jantine's best friend from nyc), Isaac, Isaac's girlfriend Ari, and Isaac's neighbor Cole. We hung out in the room for a while but then since everyone but me ran out of alcohol we moved the party to a bar across the street, where I refused to buy any liquor on principle because I had perfectly good smirnoffs back in the room. :) It was snowing pretty hardcore. Around 10:30, Isaac & his entourage decided to get going to beat the snow back to Cambridge, consequently party-fouling by not paying for their drinks. We should have followed their lead, but we were having such a good time hanging out that we decided to stay late and catch a cab later. I had some really good conversations with Erin in particular, and with this dreadlocked white guy Amos who we (we the group, not we me and Erin) picked up.

After midnight we decided to head back to the hotel and chill out, and we stopped at the Store24 for munchies on the way. There was a hell of a lot of snow at this point but we still almost got hit by saw some cabs on the road, so we weren't worried about getting home. We weren't worried about much of anything, actually. Hung out in the room, watched Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back on comedy central, and I fell asleep for a while. Around 2:15, we started wanting to go home and called the front desk to ask them to call us a cab. By 3am, when we hadn't heard anything, we called back and found out that they'd been trying to get a cab company on the phone, and the two they'd been able to get a hold of didn't have any cars on the road. Because of the snow. The people at the front desk said, the T starts running at 5, and that was pretty much all they could tell us. The girls were pretty much all asleep at this point. So I crashed out in Nicole's bed with her, and Jorn crashed on a chair, and Dann on the floor.

At 5 we got up and headed for the T. No problems getting to the Kenmore station, since the entrance was literally feet from the hotel entrance, but we ended up standing there waiting for a train for a really long time. Note to self, if the T starts at 5, that means that a train leaves *the end of the B/C/D/E lines* at 5, and no trains get to a stop like Kenmore for approximately ages after that. We did see some empty trains with snow plows on the front of them go by, which was heartening, but it was AFC cold in there. Train arrives, maybe around 5:45-6:00, and we get on it. Ended up waiting again at Park Street for a red line train for a while. Finally got to Central around 6:30-6:45, and it was positively post-apocalyptic aboveground. Snow everywhere. Snow huge. The wind was insane, and the sky was starting to turn some crazy colors because it was getting near to sunrise. Snow falling, snow blowing all around. There was no sidewalk to speak of, so after wading half a block we started walking in the street. Dann ran up ahead, but Jorn had my leftover Smirnoffs in his backpack so I stayed back with him. I had my camera with me and took a bunch of random snowy pictures, so hopefully they'll turn out. We had to walk backwards for a while because the wind was so strong. I didn't know it could be that cold and still be snowing, but then I thought about, like, Alaska, and figured it must be possible. Climbing over the snow banks to get to our house, we were knee- and thigh-deep in it. Dann had left the door propped open for us. Dropped our wet stuff, hit the bathroom, collapsed into bed by 7am.

I slept until 1:30ish, then got up to tell Dylan and Farbs about our adventures. Farbs' car was pretty much snowed in with mine (I was glad I had moved it to the driveway and pulled up far enough for other cars to fit), so she was in for the long haul with us. It stopped snowing sometime during the afternoon, but it was still pretty crazy out there. Dyl and Farbs decided to be adventurous and head for the grocery store, since we were out of milk, but I'd had enough adventures for one day. They dropped off food after a while and went back out to play some more. I finished my book and played a bunch of nintendo, I think, then made baked french toast for dinner. Dyl and Farbs got back in time to sample some of the dinner, then made their own (Dyl made Big Pancake), and then Farbs made a veritable assload of chocolate chip cookies while the rest of us played Rummikub. Had kind of a nasty altercation during the game (TATG), but that's done with now. Then I borrowed Dann's copy of Ever After because I'd been jonesing to watch it for a while.

Monday: called Kip, confirmed that I am a nonessential employee and didn't need to try to come to work. Started a new book. Hung out with Farbs. Played some Buffy. Read more. Ate lunch. Played more Buffy. Beat the Buffy game again, watched the outtakes with Dann. Went back and redid the levels where I hadn't found all the secrets. Unlocked all the extra stuff. Read some more. Encouraged poor Farbs when she came in all disheveled and disheartened from trying to dig her car out. Hung out. Ordered pizza for dinner with everyone. Yum. Worked on a project with Jorn and then read some more. Overall an excellent day off.
