Okay, fine, here's a real post. Because you know I can't help myself.

This weekend was really good. [livejournal.com profile] ame0toko traveled up to visit, and it was awesome to see him, I just wish I had been around more to hang out. Friday night, I met up with Farbs for some impromptu paper shopping and dinner (at Boca Grande, on Mass Ave--ymmuy!), and then we walked up to Harvard together and got chocolate from Burdick's. We had a lovely chat, and I feel so much unbelievably better on that score than I did. She's an awesome friend. When I got home, Jorn and Jerod and I debated for a while what we could do, but just ended up watching Plan 9 From Outer Space and falling asleep. Saturday I worked at Otis House and only gave one tour, which was nice. Did a lot of reading. Saturday night we went to see Pedro the Lion and Low, which was a really good show. Excellent. It was even worth standing outside in the cold for over an hour because we had to be at the front of the line, because we got great seats right up front. Sunday we slept in, and I read my book while Jerod played Mario Sunshine, until Jorn and Jerod headed out in search of Fat Willards. Then I got myself together and drove out to CT to watch the StupidBowl with Sarah B and her friends. I knew Tony and Dan, and I got to meet Sara (who I'd met before, I think) and her whole family (party was at her mom's house) and Jameson and some other people. It was good just to hang out with Sarah B and scream at the TV together. And the houseful of Patriots fans were quite kind to us, really. Then I got to see how Sarah's decorated her new place (it's looking really nice) and then I drove home and crashed into bed.

The other thing I've been doing a lot the past week is going to art stores. I've been to Utrecht, Pearl (twice), and the Paper Source, and I've found that Tokai in the Porter Exchange has a good selection of rice papers for the best prices I've seen so far. I've also been to Target (got my toolbox there) and ordered some office supplies from staples.com that will be useful outside the office as well. I haven't had too much time to actually do anything with my purchases, since I've been doing so much shopping, but I have acquired almost all the basic tools I need (still need some book cloth, and the kind of hole punch you have to hit with a hammer, but we won't be using those until later). And I have some thread, and some inkpads, and some paper, and it should be enough to get me through class tonight. I didn't want to buy a lot of anything just yet since I don't really know what I'll want to work with, so I just got a few things to get me started. I wanted to start actually dipping papers in various things to change the color, but I just didn't have time this week. Just getting all that stuff was enough of an undertaking. But my teacher wants us to play with making stamps to personalize our papers, so I did a little of that yesterday--used my X-acto knife (sigh!) and carved up a few rubber Utrecht erasers (which she specifically recommended), and when I got home last night and tried them out with the inkpads, they worked awesomely. I'm proud. I also figured out what I wanted to do for the "bring in 26 images" project for this week--I went through my drawer of double prints that never got used for anything and cropped a bunch of them down to the right size (using my new best friend with my new metal ruler and my new cropping mat--total bliss). Realized I've taken some really good pictures--there were a lot of doubles in the drawer that I had forgotten about entirely because I hadn't looked at the pictures in their albums in so long. I feel glad about what I'm using for this week's project and about the effort I've put into the class so far. It's nice to not have to be writing something all the time for a class.
