I am so tempted. I mean, the Phelps twins! And John Rhys-Davies couldn't be cooler.

I'm thinking about doing that meme where I list my ten favorite shows (I just typed "shoes") and everyone has to guess who my favorite character is from that show. But if I was going to do that I would have to decide first who my favorite characters actually are. Also I'm not sure I have ten favorite shows. Let's see: Buffy, Angel, Lost, ST:TNG, Top Model (but how could I pick one favorite from four seasons' worth of models? Oh wait I can).. what else? I haven't been all up on my old school Battlestar Galactica lately. Pokemon could work. Samurai Jack, but then there's really just the one main character for that. Oh, whatev.

My weekend was good. I got stressed out about my extra credit project for Book Art, but then I got a massage from Sarah EE and had a nice dinner from Kiraz and some fro-yo, and I felt a lot better and figured out what I have to do. It's looking good, I think, and I know I did a better job on the process book at least. I feel like the concept for this book is stronger and is hanging together, though we'll see what my prof says when I bring it to class tomorrow. It's a simple book, and is simple visually, which concerns me, but I didn't want to add elements that I thought would be distracting or that were unrelated to my concept. I thought it would be better to be simple than to overdo it.

On a side note, here's how insane this class has made me: last night I was awake at midnight in the kitchen, attempting to make paper beads. At midnight, mind you. Of course, I only had a general idea of the paper-bead-making procedure, since when she talked about it in class I was still trying to figure out how to finish up the last thing we did and I only caught about half of what she said, but the glue was out and I had some likely-looking scraps of paper left over from making the pages, so I thought I'd give it a whirl. Several of my paper beads look more like lumpy trash than something I'd want to put on a string, but some of them actually resemble beads and look interesting. I might try to do some more later tonight, but only after I finish up the rest of the book.

Friday there was a spring party at my work for the faculty assistants. I had never been to one before, but everyone was really nice, and there were excellent desserts. Maybe, maybe, maybe I will someday have friends at work. Or even acquaintances at work. Or even people I say good morning to at work. Anyway, Saturday I was at Otis all day (where I do in fact have friends and coworkers), and Saturday night I had a great time bowling in Davis Square with Jorn, Farbs, Dann, Dyl, Tadd, EE, Benjie, Maddie, Tom, and Miles. I think that's everyone. It was great. Miles and Tadd and I had a particularly raucous time discussing the "intense" breasts of the green-tank-topped girl a few lanes over--M & T can always crack me up. After bowling I went home with my housemates and Farbs to play some DDR and get a little drunk. I'm not sure if it was the bowling or the DDR, but my legs and ass are still all sore today from the exercise. I should definitely do both more often.

$80 for the entire weekend is wicked cheap! I don't think I have ever been to a con for that little. (A real one. I am not counting SakuraCon in Everett, WA because I was there the first year and it was only like $10 because they weren't sure they were going to make it.)

The good thing is that there are a lot of hotels in Danvers, and so you probably could get a cheap Motel 6 room and not have to be at the expensive, filthy, horrible Sheriton.

How far is it to drive there? I could skip the hotel entirely if it's not far.

I'm just hesitating because 1) it would be no fun to do alone and I don't know if anyone else I know will be there, 2) my last major con experience was at Star Trek cons back in high school (mid 1990s), and this is way more expensive, plus you have to pay extra for autographs and events and it seems like pretty much everything. But I don't have anything current to compare with, so this could be a good rate. Dunno.

I think from Cambridge to Danvers, it would be about a 40 minute drive. Which really isn't that far, but I've noticed that people here don't really like to drive for longer than 25 minutes for anything 'cause of the roads and other drivers, etc.

Usually, at cons that I have been to, for the classes and such, usually between $3 - $5 is about average. (But they may be charging more for this event because of the amount of celebrities and the fact that they are BIG characters from the movies and not just minor ones. But more than $10 for classes is bullshit)

And you're right about it being no fun when you really don't know anyone. That's why you have several months to find people who want to dole out entry fee and half of the gas money just so that they can dress up in funny outfits and rub elbows. (If I were going to be here, I would go with you!)

oh and totally on a tangent, because I love to do them. . .
did you realize that Battlestar Galactica was written by a mormon? It's actually really amusing to watch it and know about mormonism because they make all these references that only mormons would get!

Hmmm...Boba Fett and Darth Maul? And so close by? Tempting.

[livejournal.com profile] tobi mentioned it--you haven't met yet, but you'd probably like each other (based on only acquaintanceship with you both, I realize).

And the chance to make certain friends squeal with envy that I got to meet Boba... heh heh... ;)

That was exactly my thought, except that my thought included some unmentionable content about the hottness of the Phelps twins. Not that Boba and Darth aren't cool and all. :)

But yeah, if people were going, I'd go. No fun alone, though, need someone to squee with. :)
