I had an excellent weekend. Friday night I did not end up going to the Coolidge for the Buffy musical, but I did go to
ricevermicelli's house (I found Dorchester!!) and watched the musical and the Firefly pilot there with her and her roommates. I have seen few things as pink as her house. Saturday morning I slept in, and then Sarah arrived! We were so excited. First we exchanged stuff ("Here's your birthday present, and your souvenir from San Francisco, and that cd I borrowed last fall!" "Thanks, here's your Christmas present!"), and then we talked to Amy in Denver. We managed to book our flight for only $170 each--apparently an excellent, excellent deal. We'll be in Denver over Labor Day weekend, Friday night to Tuesday morning (sorry, Chrysta, and I definitely won't be at DragonCon now). After we booked the flights I realized that if Jorn and I are moving, we'll have just moved into a new place and then I'll be going to Denver the next day. Oh well. We've got time, hopefully we can move August 1 instead of September 1 so we can have the month to settle in.
After talking to Amy and booking the flights, Sarah and I ran out of the house, hoping to still get to the Sam Adams brewery in time for the last tour at 2pm. Of course, I forgot that the Charles/MGH stop on the Red Line was closed and they were bussing between Kendall and Park. Sarah and I were at Central at 1:40, so there was no way we could possibly make it out to Stony Brook in time. Dang. Next visit. Instead we T'ed to Kendall, shopped at the Garment District (buying, between us, five black shirts and nothing else), and stopped at Cafe Kiraz on the walk home for some fro yo. Yum. Next we drove out to
allthefishies's house to check on her kitty (who was in excellent spirits, despite his people being in Vermont for the weekend, because they had left the porch door open for him--he didn't even want to come in and eat his food), and then we got lost on the way to Bey's for her BBQ. No, that's not right--mapquest got us lost in Watertown. Fuckers. Once we figured out what the hell we were doing and found the highway, we had no problems at all finding Bey's house. We enjoyed some excellent company, excellent pants (on
cathijosephine), the incredibly excellent apple peeling and slicing machine, and finally, some excellent British comedy (the first season of Coupling). When we got back to my place we pretty much conked out.
Sunday was the best day evar. We slept in, and since the weather was lovely, we figured we'd just head for the commons and walk around and see where we ended up. We didn't even make it there--because of the aforementioned bussing between Kendall and Park, we decided just to walk across the Longfellow Bridge up to Park Street. Once on the other side of the bridge, we noticed the lovely park area next to the river and thought we'd explore down there. We took a wonderful long walk--all the way along the river past the BU bridge to the next bridge into Central. We stopped at Whole Foods for peaches and water, then walked up to Harvard Square, where we took advantage of the excellent sale at Hootenanny to buy gothy little skirts. We called up Jorn then, and he met us at the Border Cafe for dinner and margaritas. After the walking and the shopping and the food and the drinks, Sarah and I were both zombified at this point, so when we got home we watched most of the first season of Sex & the City on my computer. And ate more fro yo.
On Monday Sarah had to head out around noon, so I went with her out to her car at Alewife, then picked up dunkin donuts for my roomies on the way home. After that I ate a donut and finished Lady in Gil, which made me so crazy that I dragged Jorn out to the mall with me to buy the rest of the trilogy. I had some Driving Issues, and some Parking Issues. Jorn = teh best. Once we finally got shopping we had a good time. Except that apparently this trilogy is out of print! Borders had nothing but Marion Zimmer Bradley and nothing at all by Rebecca Bradley. I was mad. That didn't stop me from spending my gift certificates on other books, though--they were having a buy two, get one free sale on selected paperbacks, so I got hypocrite in a pouffy white dress (which ricevermicelli had fortuitously recommended to me just that Friday) and Wicked, and I got Jorn a Chuck Palahniuk he hadn't read yet for free. I also picked up Angels and Demons by Not My Roommate, since I've been meaning to read it. And it turned out that one of my gift cards was for $25 instead of $10! So I ended up getting four books for like $2.00. W00t. I followed that up with a $3.00 top from the Old Navy clearance rack. Yay for holiday weekend sales.
Monday night I installed The Sims on my computer. This is proving to have been a bad, bad idea. I installed all the expansion packs, so for the first time my Sims can take vacations, have hott dates, and make magic on my own actual computer. I created a Teh family, with members Rox, Jorn, Dann, and Dylan, and I used the money cheat to build them a massive house. (I realized why I have no problem using the money cheat--I struggle to buy fun things and pay bills in real life, so why should I do that in my fantasy Sim life?) Then I bought them a cat--a naked hairless cat--who I named Fluffy. I'm a little leary of experimenting with the magic on my own "good" household, though, so I think I may make a new family to do that (who will, of course, be Willow and Tara). I'm excited to start fiddling with that. So far this game has eaten my brain. I've played it the past two nights. Jorn thinks I like my imaginary boyfriend better than him. Of course not--Sim!Jorn inexplicably loves sports. I need to get that boy some magazines.
