I could seriously throw up right now.

Suffrage doesn't please female Kansas state senator

I can't even think of anything to say about this, it's so horrible. This is the internet version of "sputtering", right here. I simply cannot form coherent thought, I am so floored by this woman's absolute insanity. I didn't realize that Contradiction existed in human form--how does she not implode from the internal conflict? I hope all of Kansas finds out about this and lynches her or something.

I mean, it's one thing to want to stay home and care for one's child--it's a perfectly natural impulse and a wonderful thing to do. But to say that men *should take care of* women belittles both the woman's ability to do things other than care for children as well as a man's desire to stay home with his child. And to say these things when one is a state senator!

Just so everyone knows, I am fully content taking care of myself. Okay?

Yeah, the contradiction of believing suffrage was a bad idea while at the same time running for public office is beyond rational. The word "doublethink" doesn't begin to cover her pathology.

Some woman came to campus a few weeks ago and said that feminism was the downfall of the American family. Makes me sad that there are women that believe this crap.

I should probably also mention, that my dad was the "stay at home mom" while my mom went out and worked. I think we all came out ok.

She mentions that, without the 19th amendment, women wouldn't be forced to vote, or serve in the state legislature.

We *aren't* forced to do any such thing. And if she hates doing those things so much, she should really feel free to stop.

Um...yes. Precisely. Feminism is about the right to make choices, not being forced to do one or the other. Someone this ignorant is in the Senate? Why the hell would she be part of the political system if she doesn't think women should be involved in politics?

"Taken care of" my ass...

A prominent female state senator has said that she does not support the 19th Amendment, which guarantees women the right to vote, and that if it were being considered today she would vote against it.

does it occur to her that she wouldn't be able to vote against it because she wouldn't be in damn senate to begin with? what a moron.

dear kansas,
you have one f-ed up state senator right there. if you believe that voting is a right we all have, and are priviledged to have it (please note i didn't say we were priviledged to have it forced down our throats), please exercise that right and vote her the hell out of your senate. 'cause seriously, she's just making ya'll look bad.

thanks!
de

ps how'd she get voted in in the first place? why'd she decide to run if she's so against women being involved in politics? my head's about to explode.

Searching for something to do in retirement, O'Connor got into politics by accident when she was drafted by a neighborhood gathering to run for the House of Representatives in 1992.

Oh, they made her do it! She would have rather stayed at home and gleefully submit to her husband's whims, but her community forced her into this shameful state senate position.

well, being a woman and not having a mind of her own, i guess she had to go along with them!

ugh!

"My husband is the head of the household and I am the heart. And the head can't live without the heart..."

Funny enough, that's a Mormon phrase. The LDS bishops use it all the time. Makes me wonder if she is Mormon, and if she is, then her thinking would be completely logical, as the Mormons are the champions of contradiction.

I didn't get that as strongly at the Mormon wedding I attended as the second Jehova's Witness wedding I attended, in which about half the sermon was devoted to making sure we knew the pecking order was Jehovah -> Man -> Woman -> Children. "It's not that we're saying men are better than women, just that a boat can't have two captains."

I think my cousins, also in attendance, spent the next half-hour deprogramming their daughters.

I just get so sick, not with the christian religions, but with the way that people interpret it. What I mean is that christianity by itself is a beautiful thing, but then you get people telling you what it means within their personal morals. Generally traditional men (Priests, Pastors, Bishops, etc), and they're usually the worst kind of the people to hold a position over other people.

I see a lot of the workings of the LDS church as my fiance's family are all mormon, and he used to be very much into it. Plus, I just moved to Utah, which is reason enough to start doing feminist seminars!

You know, I opened that link, read a paragraph, and closed the page because it just wasn't worth my time. You hear that, you ignorant morons? I'm ignoring you! Now go away!

So do you think that'll work? :)
