supercheesegirl: (little worker rox)
Jorn's sister Chelsea is coming to visit us for two weeks. We keep having all these good ideas of things to do with her, so I thought I'd consolidate into one post so we'd remember it all.

- Six Flags New England - I can get tickets for $26 (instead of $42 at the gate) - Chelsea is psyched about the water park. Hours for main park 10-10, hours for water park 11-7 - we're thinking we'll take off work and do this on a weekday
- South Berwick Strawberry Festival, Saturday June 25 - I found out about this because one of SPNEA's house museums (the Sarah Orne Jewett House, where I've been dying to go anyway) is having free tours that day in honor of the festival, and I figured it'd be fun to do since we all like strawberries. I also thought this might be fun to combine with a day or afternoon in Portsmouth, because they're close and Portsmouth is awesome and Chelsea will love it, but that depends on whether Jorn can maybe get another half day off work to go on Friday, since we have to be back at a decent hour on that Saturday night
- Ted Leo show at the Somerville Theater, June 25 - I'm not going to this one, but Jorn already has the tickets for him and Chelsea and thinks she'll like it

- Kelly Link reading at Harvard Book Store, Wednesday June 22, 6:30pm
- possibly the Our Bodies, Ourselves discussion at Harvard Book Store, Tuesday June 28, 6:30pm

- MIT Museum - so fun, and Jorn hasn't been there either, plus it's two blocks from our house and hellacheap
- New England Aquarium - Chelsea needs to see the penguins. I can get discount tickets for $7.50 each and I can get myself in for free on my SPNEA id

movies:
- the traveling pants on Sunday with the girlfriends
- she has requested (okay, begged) us not to see Revenge of the Sith until she gets here and can go see it with us (sigh)
- I want to see Batman Begins, and I don't think she'll complain
- Jorn and the Zombie88 (ie, his work buddies) want to go see Land Of The Dead the night it opens, which is June 24. Chelsea will likely be dragged to this one and spend the movie cowering with her face buried in my shoulder. I don't know how important it is to go on the opening night--this was also the night we (okay, I) had considered staying over in Portsmouth - we should get started figuring out that weekend, huh?

other stuff:
- she needs to go shopping for a bathing suit. this is kind of terrifying, but needs to be done before we go to six flags
- I thought it might be fun to take her out for a manicure, and it would give me an excuse to actually go get one since I've been meaning to
- she's dying to go to the Cheesecake Factory
- I think she'll love watching Firefly
- she wants to play a lot of Zelda, and I bet she'll love MarioKart DoubleDash too because we can all play together

miscellaneous stuff we probably won't have time for:
- if we do get to Portsmouth, I can get us all in free to the Strawbery Banke historic village, which I'd love to do
- Salem witch stuff would be so fun
- Harvard museums: cheap/free and close to home
- Southwick's Zoo (discount tickets for $9.50, down from $15) or Zoo New England
- I still want to do a Duck Tour, but that's so pricey...

I don't know how many museums I can in good conscience drag her to, though. Our main problem is that we've got limited time--Jorn can only take a little bit of time off work, and I don't want to take too much since I'll be taking a week in July. So we're limited to evenings (shopping, manicures, movies, video games, Firefly should cover that) and weekends for things we can do as a group. Anything museumy or touristy is bound to be packed on the weekend, which is why we decided to use our time off to do Six Flags during the week. But if we get going early enough hopefully things like the aquarium won't be too too busy.

Another problem: no idea how we're going to look for apartments while she's here. And very, very little time to do this during this week.

::edit:: The more I think about it and look at this post, the more I think that if we only get to do one of them, Portsmouth is what we should do over South Berwick. I can get up to Maine and look at historic houses later this summer, plus there's historic stuff in Portsmouth I've never seen, plus Portsmouth is closer, plus I think Chelsea will really like the town and there will be lots for us to do there.
