supercheesegirl: (eternal sunshine - under the covers)
Yesterday was [livejournal.com profile] painkiller's birthday. I forgot to make a birthday post, but I did write him a big note on the markerboard and gave him a stingray. I <3 all 31 years' worth of Dsnn Brpwn.

Yesterday we finally, finally went to see Revenge of the Sith. I choked up several times, and Chelsea sobbed at the end of the movie. (Almost like how I sobbed at the end of Crouching Tiger--that bad.) As of this morning she was still really sad. I was reminded of Wicked--in both, I knew exactly what was going to happen at the end, but that didn't make it any better when I got there. I especially hated the part where he killed the little children. And then when the senator guy (who is he, anyway?) landed his plane outside the temple, and that one brave little padawan tried to fight his way over to him and totally got cut down--that was so awful. He was such a brave little kid. I was so upset when all the Jedis died. I got pretty pissed off at Padme, too--she's got a good career, she's been a *queen* for goodness sake, but Anakin goes bad and she loses the will to live? She had two beautiful babies and she couldn't pull it together enough to be their mom? I guess I understand that her whole worldview, her whole universe even, had been shattered, but I was still mad that her children weren't enough to make her want to live. Also--Alli, help me out here--Leia told Luke she remembered a little about their mother? Or is that just a commonly known plot hole now?

Anyway, when we got home we also watched another two episodes of Firefly: "Our Mrs. Reynolds" and "Jaynestown". Jaynestown was awesome, but it also made me really sad at the end. I mean, here's Jayne, who's never been a hero in his life, and he was actually doing a pretty good job of it before that scraggly dude showed up and ruined it all for him. I was so sad when Jayne pushed the statue over. I think it's safe to say that I'm pretty hooked on Firefly at this point. I'm hoping we can get through the rest of the season before Chelsea has to leave on Monday.

Jaynestown contains the most amazing stunt fall I have ever seen (the mudder who gets shot at the end). Also, it's a lot of fun.

I always figure that the mudders pull the statue right back up the minute Serenity leaves town.

I loved Firefly when it was on TV... I'm so glad so many people are 'discovering' it now; and loking forward even more to seeing "Serenity" when it comes out!

That "senator guy" is Bail Organa. He's the senator for Alderaan and Leia's adoptive father.

Yes. Leia told Luke she remembers "images mostly." That she was very kind, beautiful, and sad. There are many explanations to "fix" George's mistake. The one I like best is the same way that Luke is more connected to his father through the Force, Leia is more connected to her mother.

But we never meet Leia's adoptive father again when she's an adult, right? He seemed like a really nice man.

Thanks for the info!

It seems like he was briefly mentioned in that Star Wars novelization I read back in the late 70s, but that was so long ago I might be misremembering.

i read (i think in entertainment weekly) that there was originally a plot line added towards the end of RotS that showed padme living & starting the resistance movement. apparently, since lucas left so much plot to this one film, there wasn't time; so it was shortened to 'padme gets the vapors' and swoons into oblivion.

i just watched our mrs. reynolds & jaynestown with my roommate nicole on wednesday! (she's watching the series for the first time right now) did the scraggly guy remind you of val kilmer? ; )
the next episode (out of gas) is my favorite.

I love Jaynestown, with its whole Canadian folk music sound and Simon going mad and Jayne's little hero's journey. Someone mentioned that Adam Baldwin plays both Jayne and his nemesis in this one, but I couldn't find it in the credits and didn't recognize him until someone said it.

You're coming up on some amazing stories. "Out of Gas" totally rules Firefly. But then, so does "Ariel" and "War Stories" and...

Padme's character is my only serious problem with Sith. Totally wasted potential.

Yes! Padme had so more potential than being a dress-up doll.

I agree about the statue going back up. There is a film line from an old classic, "When the legend becomes fact, print the legend". Jayne had become legend and those folks were gonna find a way to keep him that way.
