supercheesegirl: (buffy happy)
I have the best friends ever. If you only read one thing in this post, that would be the most important thing. The other main point of this post is to say that the moving went really well yesterday, and I'm blissed out on new-apartment goodness.

So yesterday morning, Jorn and I got up around 8am. He took a shower, I washed the sheets and had breakfast and packed some random stuff and then took a shower myself and then finished packing the bathroom stuff, and then Jorn and I and Farbs cleaned the bathroom. It really needed it. Bobbi arrived at our house around 10:15ish and immediately set to taking apart the futon with Jorn. I moved my car into the driveway so we could more easily fill it with stuff, and no sooner had I gotten back upstairs than the doorbell rings: on the porch are EE and Benjie, and also Mr. Jacob Inconvenient, the upstairs subletter, who wants me to move my car. K, whatev. I move the car and EE and Benjie and Farbs started bringing out boxes. When my car fills up (astonishingly quickly) Benjie volunteers his car for more stuff transportation, and we fill both cars (with the magical aid of Bobbi, car packer extraordinaire), and then Benjie, EE, Farbs, and I drove over to the new apartment to unload. Isaac was just arriving in his pickup as we left, maybe 10:45ish.

By 11:20, we had unloaded and made it back to Columbia House, where we found Bobbi, Nathan, and Kris lounging on the loveseat out on the sidewalk. Jorn and Isaac had left already to take the bed over to the new place, so we started bringing down various bits of furniture to go next. At one point, a strange man pushing two little kids in strollers came and asked me all these questions, like was the stuff on the sidewalk for sale (no), was I moving (yes), where was I moving to and what floor was my old apartment and how much did it cost. Kind of weirded me out. Anyway, we kept carrying down, loading, and carrying more stuff down. EE and Benjie left to go get lunch and work at their organic farm share, and Amy arrived in T's CRV, so we started loading that up too (Amy, goddess of my move, not only spent all day Saturday and all day Sunday helping us move, she even brought donuts on Sunday!). At some point Dylan came home from his frisbee tournament all exhausted. Eventually I started walking around the apartment to see if there was anything left that we needed to bring. I didn't find a whole lot. Anything that was boxed up had been taken downstairs, as well as the futon, the loveseat, Jorn's one and my three bookshelves, Jorn's two cd racks, Jorn's and my dressers, my desk, my computer, the kitchen table, the coffee table off the back deck, various lamps, the trunk of my winter clothes in the hall, everything we could think of. I think my old room right now contains my old bed (going to Sarah B this weekend), my green yaffa blocks, all the clothes in my closet, my old computer (anyone want it?), the trunk full of stuff I'm getting rid of, and a trash can. That's about it. We were thorough.

So, last trip over to the new place, we leave my car on a side street and Isaac drives Jorn in the pickup, Amy drives Bobbi in T's car, and Kris and Nathan drive me (and some pillows, and the rest of the donuts) in Kris's car. We managed to fit everything in the new apartment, and Isaac went home then because he wasn't feeling well. Then we started arranging the stuff and putting things together. Bobbi coordinated the futon assembly, and Amy put together the bed with assistance from me and Kris. We put my desk where I wanted it and then put the bookshelves where we wanted them. Bobbi and I put together the kitchen table, and somebody put together the coffee table. Then, with seating and surfaces available, we immediately ordered pizza. It was maybe 1:00 by this point. Didn't I say I had great friends? Then Bobbi suggested ice cream, so I gave her and Amy some cizzash and they walked up to the Star and returned with mint chocoloate chip, chocolate, and some of those all-fruit pops that I love, along with plastic spoons and cute disposable bowls with pictures of animals on them. Now, everyone could have left after the pizza and ice cream, but they didn't; they stayed and unpacked my books and Jorn's books and Amy put food in the cupboards and unpacked cups and moved all the cd boxes to the hall and Nathan put together the vaccuum cleaner. I got Mindy out of the bag she was packed in and brought her out to supervise. Stuff got unpacked really quickly.

Around 5 or so, Kris and Nathan and Bobbi headed out, and Dann Brown arrived! I had left him a note with the new address on the markerboard at Columbia House, so as soon as he got home from his vacation he dropped off his bags and came over. I was so happy to see him. We fed him pizza and gave him beer, and he folded kitchen towels and I put away pots and pans and put fresh contact paper down under the sink. Amy called T, and after dropping off his friend at the airport T came over with his other friend Wayne. T and Wayne put together the entertainment center (after Amy and Jorn made a quick run back over to Columbia House for some cords that had been left behind). Wayne apparently puts together entertainment stuff for his job, so he did it really quickly. All of a sudden, we had a working TV, DVD player, VCR, PS2, Gamecube, and N64. Holy crap. While they were doing that, I was tightening up the screws on the two-shelf bookcase from my room, which Bobbi had brilliantly placed in the living room and put all my plants on. I tightened it up, nailed the back on, and put all the plants on top, and then filled the shelves with photo albums and tall coffee-table-type books. It looks really nice. Amy and T and Wayne left, and Dann hung out a while longer. After Dann left, Jorn and I looked at each other, and immediately leaped up to christen the new place. That's right: we played two rounds of MarioKart. Then I called my mom and squeed about the new place, and Jorn called his sister and Danielle, and I alphabetized some books and then wandered around just looking at everything. Because it's an apartment. It's OUR apartment. And it's really, really pretty.

Sorry I was out of town and couldn't help, but it sounds like everything went smoothly. Congratulations!

Oh, don't worry about it! We had exactly enough help, it seems like: plenty of people to get things moved quickly, but not so many people that we were banging into each other. It worked out really well. Thanks!

I'm actually almost out of the old place. Most of the stuff that I can move has been moved now--I'm planning to go over on Wednesday night and try to pack up the rest of it. I'm thinking I won't need any more help! Yay!

Do you want a storage trunk? It's green.
