I must have slept funny because I can't turn my head to the left at all. When I try my neck hurts. Also if I tilt my head down too far or back too far. Ow, ow. Besides the obvious "don't turn your head that way", anyone have any advice that will help?

My office is moving to a new location on Monday morning. Today I am packing boxes. More boxes! I am so sick of packing boxes. When all this moving is done I plan to stay put for a good long while.

Your trapezius is locked up. It is more than just your shoulder muscle, it runs up along the side of your neck and terminates at the base of the skull. I have it happen a few times a year. A massage therapist can unlock it with some work. For me (if I'm alone) the easiest way is to make the muscle expend any stored energy so that it _has_ to release. This involves applied constant pressure on the muscle and/or prolonged stretching. Since it connects to the back of your skull you should apply pressure there so that you don't damage the attachment point. You can wrap your arm around the front of your head and hold onto the end point of the muscle. Using that arm you can slowly pull the head towards the opposite shoulder. While doing that apply pressure with the other hand. You can use the pressure and the stretching to slowly cause the muscle to overwork. Since it's anerobic exercice you will be building up a lot of lactic acid in there. If it does release you need to massage the area to get your lymphatic system to flush the lactic acid or you will just cramp up again. Drink a lot of water, it will help flush as well. A lot of times it's caused by a combination of stress, not enough potassium, and not enough water.

I hope that you fix it *hugs*
