This took me forever but it was really good. I stayed up till 5AM reading it last night so I could finish it. I was really kind of pissed off when they killed Ned. He was a really good guy, and he didn't deserve that. But I think he kind of knew when he left Winterfell that it wasn't going to end well, you know? I bet that Jon Snow isn't actually Ned's bastard, either: I think that Lyanna had a baby after Rhaegar raped her, and Ned promised to keep her secret. I think that's why Ned kept always remembering Lyanna asking for his promise. But now that Ned's dead I don't see how Jon's going to find out. That would also make Jon half Targaryen, which has some sort of interesting implications. Oh, and I saw WAY early on that Dany was going to hatch those dragons. I really liked Dany's character, I liked how she developed from a frightened child into a really powerful woman. I hope her dragons eat Joffrey, and then she can have a crazy lesbian love with Sansa. My favorite characters were Arya, Jon, and Dany. I was pretty upset when Bran fell off the tower, and also when Lady was killed too. By not defining one specific hero, the author is definitely leaving his options open to kill off whomever he wants, and that's a little scary. Right now I'm hoping that it'll end with Robb being king in the north and Dany and her dragons anally raping Joffrey and taking the iron throne, but I know it's going to be more complicated than that. I'm pretty scared for Robb, actually. He's really young and really alone.

Does anyone have the rest of the series that I can borrow? John, maybe?

Oh you have no idea... book three absolutely seared my brain. One particular scene shocked me like few books can.

Arya and Jon both fascinate me.

So you'd say it's worth continuing to read them, then? (As long as Arya and Jon continue to survive and be mostly okay, I would want to keep reading, I think. And I know Dany at least makes it to the third book because I read the back at the bookstore the other day...)

I found it worth reading. Not my favorite books, but rather epic in a way without losing focus on certain key characters. Complex characters, and I really have no idea where it's going to end.

The three characters you mention were all, as I remember, still alive at the end of book three. But it's been a while. He is taking his time getting to the end.

OH GOODY. I'm not the only one thinking that. If that's actually what happened, I'm sure someone else knows, possibly Varys? Or we could just be overthinking everything. ;)

And I burst into uncontrollable sobbing when they killed Lady.

I should get Book 2 sometime this week... but I have a stack of books I need to read first! Argh.

It's been long enough that I don't remember who Varys is. It seemed obvious that Ned's wife didn't know, though, because she admits she could never love Jon. I wish Ned had told her; she would have felt so much better about the whole thing, but then she might not even know Lyanna was raped. We're so not overthinking it--Ned doesn't have any other bastards, he loved his wife, so why would he have just the one?

I have *so much* to read. Argh! But yay!
