i'm trying to decide if i should get my car washed (ie, before i go home tomorrow). there's a severe water shortage in greensboro, so i don't think i'm allowed to wash it myself (besides not really knowing how to go about doing that), so i'd have to go somewhere. my dad always gets really pissy about me never washing my car, and i have to admit it looks crappy right now, and i'm so sick of hearing his lecture on the importance of car washing every single time i'm at home. but also, it's been rainy and gross in greensboro lately so wouldn't the car wax stuff just come off sooner than it should? and is it stupid to wash the car before a major car trip? won't it just be dirty again by the time i freakin' get there?

also, are you supposed to tip the car wash guys? last time i got my car washed there was this team of car wash guys who dried the car with towels. it seemed like they kept looking at me significantly and i wasn't sure what to do. if i am supposed to tip them, what's an appropriate tip for a team of car wash guys? i mean, are they all supposed to split a buck, or should they each get a buck? but depending on how many car wash guys there are, that could be more expensive than the actual car washing. this issue is probably why i haven't gotten my car washed in so long. besides the fact that it makes me feel like a lazy fuck for paying someone to do something i'm perfectly capable of doing myself. but they do it so much quicker and more efficiently.

so here's my non-poll: should i get my car washed at all before my road trip tomorrow? if i do and there are car wash guys, should i tip them, and how much? please respond. :)

[Y]es, and [Y]es - 10% of the price of the car wash.

Or you could just go to an automatic carwash at a gas station. I always get my car washed at BP. It's cheaper and there are no car wash guys to be concerned about.

i didn't know such things existed--they definitely don't have those at the exxons and texacos and amacos in PA, and there aren't bps in PA. i'll have to look into that. last time i got the car washed, i went through the independent automatic car wash (ie, not attached to a gas station) and there were car wash guys (or, rather, car dry guys) waiting with towels to dry the car at the end. maybe not all car washes are like that, though. i'll have to see. thanks!
