supercheesegirl: (buffy happy)
I got a whole lot accomplished last night. Went out for a lovely dinner with [livejournal.com profile] nchanter, then came home and spent some quality time hanging out with Jorn. We watched Lost (orientation video OMG! and also I <3 Desmond), and then I caught a motivation high. I love it when that happens. I cleaned out and rearranged the entire pantry. Basically, when we were moving in, if we didn't have an immediate use for something or knew it was a box we wouldn't need right away, we stuck it in the pantry, along with all the stuff that should actually be stored in the pantry like craft stuff and holiday decorations. So nothing was organized in there, I didn't even know what all we had in there. Now we've got holiday decorations on the top shelf, Jorn's boxes of Transformers under that, my craft stuff on the left, my storebought wings folded up against the wall instead of taking up shelf space, all the board games stacked together, all the puzzles stacked together, all the kitchen things right on the bottom shelf where we'll be able to get to them easily, all the nice kitchen glassware and vases on a shelf together, and so on. Everything neatly labeled so we know what's in every box. I even made room for my old computer under the shelf in the corner and fit Jorn's old computer next to it, so they're out of the way and not taking up space until we figure out how to get rid of them. I even pulled out of the pantry several boxes of knicknacks and action figures so that we'll remember to unpack them. Now the pantry only holds things that actually belong in a pantry, and anything else that's random is in an obvious place where we'll see it. A person can walk now into the pantry and comfortably spin around. And there's room for more things--for example, I put all our candles in there until we figure out where we can put them out. It's 18 times better than it was, I'm very pleased. And I'm starting to see the end in sight: we're down to the last dozen or so boxes in the apartment, and some of those are boxes of VHS tapes that I decided we could store easily in the coat closet where we can get to them if we want them. I've started thinking about where we can hang up pictures and what pictures we want to hang where. We've determined that we can get another bookshelf because we have a good place to put it (and, in fact, we're actually going to need another bookshelf, because I found Jorn's boxes of records and 7-inches that I had totally forgotten about). We're going to get a nightstand. There's actually, honest to God, room for everything. We own so much stuff and there's room for all of it! And it's starting to look like there will be a place for everything and everything will be in its place by the time of the housewarming party. I would be okay with having the housewarming even if the house wasn't quite finished yet, but I really wanted to be settled in, and it looks like there's a chance of that actually happening. I'm very glad, and very pleased about all the stuff I got done last night.

Oh, and we'll be away at the beach this weekend, so neither Jorn nor I will be online between 1:00 or so and Monday night. Have a good weekend, everybody!

The reissue? Jorn looked so long and hard for that one! He's very proud of him.

no, the reissue is just the same optimus as the one they made in the 80's. What I believe he's got is a much larger special edition optimus with like 4 zillion points of articulation and super fanciness. I just like him the way he was in the beginning, though, so I didn't need to go track this one down.

here he is on amazon.

Getting organized rules! I have some of that on my weekend to do list.

Good luck! I was so pleased to get so much done before going away for the weekend--now we'll have not just a clean house to come home to, but the cleanest house we've had yet! :)

Can you send me some of that motivation? Steev and I have a goal to have our place organized by our New Year's party.... and considering we've lived in the townhouse for 2 years now and have NEVER been truly organized... :) It's a pretty big goal.

So nice to have more room - now you can buy more stuff! :-D

Well, when you moved in there, didn't you already have Anastasia? Your motivation was elsewhere. It happens. *hug*

It's funny, we actually had a lot more physical space in our old place, but most of it was shared space with roommates. In our new place, all the space is just ours, so we can do whatever we want with it, and we're pretty committed to getting it right (or at least I am). So even though we've technically got a lot less room to work with, we're getting it done and buying shelving and whatever else we need to make it happen. I'm really pleased with how it's going. :)

awesome. I love buying shelving. It's a little creepy.

And yeah, we already had Stasia, so there was no energy to redo anything or get truly organized. There are some rooms where I just don't like the color they had the walls, or the curtains just bug me, but it's all still there simply because we haven't had the free time or money to do it.

Speaking of, any interest in a huge wall tapestry with three dogs on it? Jorn can throw darts at it or something. :) I still don't know how they could have forgotten that. I bet there's a giant hole in our wall behind it that we'll discover in 5 years.

So wait, the previous owners left a huge wall tapestry with three dogs on it, and you still have it hanging on the wall? OMG, Suzie!

yeah, we're lazy. :)
Plus, it's downstairs, and we hardly ever go downstairs. Downstairs is at the very bottom of our 'to be cleaned and organized' list. *sigh*

You should apply to be on one of those HGTV shows where they redo your whole house for you. Seriously. You would be great candidates, and cute babies make for excellent TV. They would totally love you.

But they'd make me throw away all my valuable CRAP!

Yes, but think how pretty your house would look!

Here's the overall "Want to be on HGTV?" link: http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/be_on_hgtv/0,1783,HGTV_3222,00.html (A lot of the shows want people in CA, but that could change...)

In particular, Mission Organization is looking for people: http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/be_on_hgtv/article/0,1783,HGTV_3222_3066019,00.html (It says: "If you are fun, witty and disorganized, we want you on our show." Clearly they are looking for YOU!)
