I started the actual writing of my paper last night (before going out with Jorn and his friends from work to see Jantine spin soul music at ZuZu's in Central Square), and I've been working on it all day today (well, I woke up at 11:00 and started working maybe around 1pm). I now have about six and a half pages handwritten (ie, six notebook pages, front and back, plus one more that's just the front), and from past experience I think that'll come out to be maybe eight pages typed, nine if I'm lucky. I'm more than halfway there and I'm pumped about it! The hardest part, for me, is getting started, because that sets the tone of the whole thing, but now that I have the beginning mapped out I can just roll with the rest of it. I'm focusing on the lives of four Maya queens and I've done one of them so far, the one that I thought I would have the least to say about but I think I got at least two pages of mileage out of her, plus a lot of my own thoughts on what might have been going on with her. I'm really optimistic that I can (first of all) get at least six more pages out of the other three women I'm going to talk about, since the first one took around two pages on her own and I had the least to say about her, and I'm also optimistic about the paper overall and what I'm saying about these women and their lives. I feel like the whole thing is really working and really coming together well. But now, after writing for almost five hours, my hand can write no more and I'm going to go out for dinner with Jorn and to the movies. I'll try to type up what I've got so far at work tomorrow, and then finish up with these ladies tomorrow night.
