the scavenger hunt

Jorn sent me on a scavenger hunt last Saturday.


I went over to jorn's last Saturday to play nintendo (majora's mask, of course) while he was at his radio show. when I told him I was planning on doing this, he hinted ominously, "if you can." so when I get there, there is no game in the nintendo system. there is instead a note on top of the nintendo that says,

The Shadow Temple's where I'd like
to live; too bad it isn't real.
Instead I make you holler, YIKES!
in bed to show the love I feel.
Find me and I'll help you find Majora's Mask!

this note led me to Little Mikey, our one-eyed monster friend (previously featured as the favorite toy of Mike Wazowski in Monsters, Inc), who lives in jorn's bed and likes to jump out and scare us (because he's a monster, and monsters are scary, you know). I find Little Mikey, and under him is a note that says,

I costarred in the xmas reindeer film,
I growled with teeth and hulking form.
My home was in a wintry realm,
but now I spend my days being warm.
I've got your next clue!

this sends me running to the Abominable Snowman, who sits on the mantle above jorn's heater. Abominable gives me a note that says,

Delicious treats for you to find,
where rests the cartridge that you seek.
Multicolored like springtime,
the whole package please try not to eat.

so I head out to the kitchen and the keebler chocolate chip cookies with pastel "springtime" m&ms in them. the game cartridge was hidden right behind the cookies. and the last line of the poem really was apt, because the last time I'd played nintendo at his house, I'd eaten almost a whole pack of the chocolate lovers chips deluxe.

so what have we learned? that jorn is pretty good at rhymes (including slant rhymes and assonance, but we're not talking about my structure of verse class in this post). and also goofy and really cute.
