There was a 25-page appendix of the songs of Valdemar at the end of this book, so I had no idea the end was going to come when it did. I guess I figured there would be one more big battle and they'd defeat the evil king, but no, it ended with the happy wedding. Talia's healing after her captivity also seemed to move a little fast. Overall it was a good book, and a nice culmination of all the tension that had been building in the earlier books, but I still feel a little cheated on the ending. Did Lackey ever come back to these characters in a later book? I know she wrote the history of the mages, but I'm not as interested in that.
::edit: Nine books each in January and February. A good start to the year.
