wazzup, yo. so yeah, thursday was a pretty down day. after all the gyn issues (i still haven't decided what to do, btw), i went to workshop and had not a great time. two really interesting poets were visiting--matt rohrer and josh beckman--each has two books of his own, and they're currently finishing up a 25-city tour promoting their new collaborative book--and i really enjoyed meeting them and hearing their work and all, but workshop has just been getting me down these days. it'll be nice next semester when i don't have to go to workshop anymore. after workshop, i didn't want to go to the bar with everyone, especially since rhett wasn't going (she's usually the one i talk to the most), but i went anyway, talked to tom for a while (he's really cool), but i had to leave early to pick up jorn. when i got to jorn's place all my bad-dayness and monthly hormones hit, and i got all sad and cried, and he was very good to me. it was just more of my usual i-have-no-friends-no-one-cares-and-things-suck stuff, but at least it wasn't complicated by the i'm-a-bad-writer stuff or the i-have-no-money stuff, so it wasn't too hard for jorn to perk me up a bit.
later that night, we went (ie, got lost on the way to) a Stars of the Lid show, sponsored by the folks at gate.city.noise, and occurring at the guilford college planetarium. i didn't realize when i agreed to go that there would be three opening acts, so i was kind of put out. the first opening act was Fade to Grey, and he was good, but the second one consisted of the video guy and the sound guy for Stars of the Lid, and it was kind of scary. the video guy used all these weird images, like bugs and eye doctors doing weird things (this was projected onto the planetarium ceiling, no stars), and the sound guy mixed really weird screechy things some of the time. dannbrown probably would've liked it, but it was not my cup o' tea. then ash rae fax played (not ashtray cats or trash can lid, which were things i kept accidentally calling them), and they were good. Stars of the Lid didn't hit the stage till almost 11:15 (show started a little after 9), and honestly, when you play ambient music in a dark planetarium at 11:00 at night, you *have* to expect that some of your audience is going to doze off. which i did, but it was very nice music to doze off to. overall a good concert.
friday. felt headachy at work, went home and laid on the couch reading a fantasy novel instead of going to salsa class at the gym. spent the evening 1) at blockbuster with jorn (who doesn't want to see ANY movie i want to see, i swear), 2) chatting with élan, 3) watching Galaxy Quest (the movie we compromised on [to be fair, he suggested it, i guess to stop me from being so grumpy about him not wanting to see any movies i want to see]), and 4)playing Conker's Bad Fur Day. are any of y'all familiar with that game? it is so, so fun. the characters all curse at each other, and last night we got to battle a singing poo monster. we stayed up till 5am.
today: slept till after noon. ate cereal, played more Conker. ate chicken patty sandwiches, showered, stopped by my house, went to Celebration Station. mini golf score: jorn, 48, me, 51. this is considerably better than i ever do at mini golf. we also played skeeball; actually, it was skeeball lightning or something, the new skeeball thing they have with lighter balls and more streamlined-looking, i guess to make skeeball look cooler. dood, there's not much that's cooler than skeeball. anyway, my high score (this is skeeball lightning, remember) was 310,000. between the two of us, jorn and i won 137 tickets, which we gave to a preteen who was wanting to get a big item (because really, you can't get much for 137 tickets besides, like, pencils and rubber bouncy balls).
tonight i read Aurora Leigh for a while--i've read sections 1-4 now and have 5-6 left to go, and i need to be finished (preferably with a response already written) by wednesday. no problem. and listened to jorn's radio show, and he played a few songs for me. score!
hey ya'll, don't forget the clock-setting-back thing.
